Looking for a nice hotel or quality pub to take the family whilst staying at Troutbeck Head C&MC for Sunday lunch. Help please. Perhaps with 30 minutes of the site

The Troutbeck Inn, a few minutes away by car - you'll pass it coming off the A66 main road to the site. The Sportmans Inn off the A66 two miles before the site. Glenridding and Patterdale have good places. And of course Keswick has many eateries, from traditional pubs, fish and chips restaurants, to Indian to Italian.

Also Keswick will have things to do after the meal too.

But double check reviews and prices

When we are in that area we always go to the Bank Tavern in Keswick town centre. Lovely pub and the meals are always great also they have a good selection on beers

The Royal Hotel in Dockray family run,  does good pub food and the rooms are OK too - we've stayed there.  They also do a 'soup and sandwiches' type lunch menu.

You can walk off the food afterwards with a walk around Aira Force which is definitely worth while.

The Horse & Farrier in Threlkeld is worth a look. You'd have to book though as it gets very busy.

If you're looking for something a bit different the Rheged Centre near Penrith has a choise of eating spots with locally sourced produce.

btw there is very very poor phone signal at TH, and no wifi (or there wasn't last year) . To get a phone signal you have to be up by the main gate and road which is higher than most of the rest of the site.

Maybe W&J are already there, Corners. If so, they’ve posted by one means or another. Perhaps the wifi works now.

Are you sure about that Cornersteady? I certainly talked to my work office on a work's phone which I think was vodophone some 12 years ago. More recently I have spoken with daughters using my EE. We have only ever used lowest part of the site furthest from the entrance.

well certainly people complain about phones and maybe it is on the SP were we stay, although it does mention this when I've just looked at the site leaflet.

    Mobile & public telephones
Some networks are not available on site.
There are public telephones located in each
toilet block. Please note that these phones
    do not accept incoming calls

Post edit, read some reviews, still no wifi

We were there a couple of weeks ago - and pitched down by the beck. EE 4g was very good - I could tether my phone to my Ipad use the Internet. (Bigger screen than my phone).

We could not get a phone signal on O2 from the service pitch area, when we visited in 2016, but we could from the lower standard pitch area.

Strange about the WiFi. When we were there (May 2016) Airangel were carrying out a site survey, setting up a temporary transmitter at various locations, to establish what would be required for the set up.

There used to be a bit on the WiFi pages telling you what was being upgraded and I am sure Troutbeck was mentioned. However, it seems to have disappeared.☹️

Another vote for the Horse and Farrier in Threlkeld.  We were at Troutbeck last week and enjoyed a excellent lunch there.  We didn’t go on a Sunday so as moulesy suggests booking recommended.  We had quite a good mobile signal with O2 and EE (we were on the serviced pitches) and we could get wifi using a hotspot from the phones.  Enjoy your stay.

I'm a bit puzzled now, W&J - when you posted asking for this information on Monday I assumed you were looking for somewhere for this Sunday, but obviously not. It's a long, long way from Peterborough to Threlkeld, but I can recommend the Cherry House restaurant in Werrington if you're looking for somewhere this weekend!

Just to confirm there is no WiFi at TH and the phone signal is extremely variable. I have been sitting in the same place tonight and one minute a good signal strength the next none at all.

We have stayed a troutbeck at least 3 times and had no problem with the phone. We have always been pitched on the lowest level.

Could have sworn that the title of this thread was "Where to eat at lunchtime near Troutbeck Head site"

What has this to do with pitches and phone signal???

    Sorry yes.

The refurbishments have been very good btw. Toilet blocks inside have been totally redone and new design. New everything, but don't worry they still have privacy cubicles.

Outside too - new pitches and all HS surfaces changed.

New MHSP and dual height key fob receptor

Yes, any number of good places in and around Derwentwater. Could always try the Wainwright Inn in Lake Rd - very good last time we were there. Good phone signal toowink
