A welcoming arrival does it matter?

I can remember being amused on a couple of occasions. Talking to a member of the public on the phone and saying 'just a moment. I need to give my stock pot a stir'. They said things like, 'Oh' I didn't realise you were at home'. This would be around 7.30pm - where did they think that I might be?

Just love the responses of this cafe owner to less than favourable reviews on 'strop advisor'. What a giggle. But first look at the overall star rating which is far more telling.

David likes to personalise his posts if you disagree with him, easier.

Yes agree with your comments Mbee. The thing is most of us remember the "bad" bits, I had a lecture once when we mistakenly overshot a "no motorhomes beyond this point" sign, after the lecture I got a welcome of sorts but it was too late. I just recall the lecture not what happened afterwards. But customer service skills really are a skill and need to be practiced and refreshed.

"As this thread is following the usual route of boredom to aggressive questioning to put it politely I will start another discussion in general chat about arrival experiences."
AD - given that the above statement on the other arrival time thread was you rationale for starting this thread, are you happy with the way it's gone? Pleased with your own contributions?

Ah yes, the little model Corgi car and caravan !
Imagine going to check in at a hotel and being faced with model beds and chairs on the reception desk, and a set speech.

Had me laughing out loud! 😂The Yorkshire way of dealing with TA fools, make the idiots look what they are, politely but assertively.
We are on site number 4 of our current SW tour, have to say welcome and arrivals have all been great:
Exeter Racecourse Club Site: 7.45pm in pouring rain with a snapped exhaust after a journey less than the best.......”just pitch up, get some rest, pay tomorrow and we’ll help if we can” Which they did, many thanks.👍👍
Venndown Farm CL: “take the HS pitch, pay when you leave, let me show you the swimming pool and spa and we’ll shut the field gate on the horses so you can let dogs off in field for a good run!” Superb CL, on the must return list! We stopped an extra day.👍👍
Toynes House CL: “ so nice to hear from you again, just pitch up, you know where everything is, I will see you at some point! Another favourite, undergoing a lot of updating at the moment.👍👍
Ashbury Caravan Site: new to us, but recommended. Owner told us to pitch up, came across once we were settled in to check all ok and we found everything. Made a fuss of dogs, we already like it here after a few hours!👍👍
Above is a snapshot of all our holidays really, mix of sites, mix of old and new visits. Can’t recall ever having a poor welcome at any CL. Only one Club Site as well ever been poor, long time ago and it was dealt with to my satisfaction at the time! Occasionally we have noticed odd Warden looking rather tired, but never impolite. Having worked on behalf of “the public” I know what a mixed bag of delights some days can bring in terms of customers.🤔

Well I've only made 1 comment David, agreeing with Michael T's assessment of the thread. I just wondered if you were happy about your posts on pages 1, 3, 4 and 7? Wreckers following you? I think your so called "wreckers" were replying to you weren't they. Still, if you're happy, that's the main thing!

"Wreckers"? Surely you mean valued contributors? Be pleased people are enjoying the great thread you started.

I find reading reviews (of all kinds, not just site reviews) very amusing at times. One or two do have me pondering over the choices folks make, and puzzling over the capacity to get things so wrong very occasionally.
The old adage of “the customer is always right” doesn’t hold true in my opinion. Sometimes the customer hasn’t got a clue what they want, or how to find it, but lash out in revenge if things go wrong. Always better to sort out a problem there and then rather than take it home and feed it into a computer. My favourite BF sketch..........

does David mean that anyone who diagrees with him is a wrecker?
But yes an enjoyable thread all round

yes we always took the view that they were right untill we could prove them wrong. Most of the time they were wrong.

Same here, MM. It’s easier to nod and walk away clasping the site plan which clearly describes the alternative pitching position.

Generally a polite and professional welcome. Outstanding this year was Tuxsall where the reception staff could not have been more helpful.
Worst this year has been a CAMC site in the North of England where it was almost war from the first minute as to which golden rule I was breaking even by simply breathing. This started the "two habitation units - two pitches" debacle dismissed finally after six months of head banging as "utter rubbish" by someone fairly high up in CAMC management ( a resolution of dispute finally ended by a brilliant site manager in Cirencester who went that "extra mile" to get someone senior to make a policy decision).
My Worst of all time though goes to the Basil Fawlty of the camping world somewhere in the South of France who clearly was still awaiting the ferry to Elba where he could continue to serve "L'Empereur".It was so awful as to still make me laugh today.

Good Morning
To us the welcome on arrival is one of our priorities of any working day. Feedback from our members backs that up entirely. Nobody's perfect and there are times when things could go a little better but for us they are few and far between.
The catalyst for us applying to work for our club was a very bad experience at one of the other clubs sites in Lincolnshire. To be sworn about and then at for having a large motorhome (which was accepted on booking) in front of a large group of people in reception was to us disgusting behaviour and completely unacceptable in back in 2005. That issue was dealt with through the appropriate channels but is spurred us on to try the role out.
You do think you've seen and heard it all and grow a very thick skin, but eight years on we still get surprised by the public at large.
Respect begets respect and all that

I can't imagine ever being addressed by my first name upon arrival at a site. I rarely visit the same place twice and even if I've been before, I can't see how some poor warden would remember me when I have trouble remembering what I had for breakfast. A smile is nice but so long as I'm dealt with efficiently I'm happy.

2 x CL's we've used we get tea/coffee and cake on arrival. 1 x German campsite we use regularly if we go into the bar we get treated to Heide Guiste ( a type of schnapps) and a discount from the bill. Obviously I don't expect that on club sites but always receive a friendly welcome. I suppose that's mainly as we don't try and push the boundary's.
