We are frustrated by the lack of availability for the weekends and suspect this could be due to people block booking weekends and then cancelling the booking 72 hours prior to the date. Bring back the deposit for bookings.

Everybody has a choice.. If a particular company does not suit the needs of a customer, it is common sense to find an alternative company which does.

You’ve clearly not read other threads on this subject.

Could it be simply nothing more than people working through the week and booking weekends away?

The club used to take deposits but dropped them and found the number of no shows dropped as a result.

The answer is to book earlier or search out another site.

it just could be of course that club sites are popular as well?

There is no evidence of what you describe. You have no idea when those weekends were  booked, was it just a few weeks ago or a few days? The club has stated it has looked at a range of options in including deposits and none of them would appear to ease that fact that club sites are popular. When the club had deposits the cancellations and no snows were worse than they are now

And unless you are talking about a non refundable deposit how would your system make things better?

But the good news is that you don't have to use club sites, I have no idea personally but many on here say you can find cheaper and better sites than with the club, and for some reason they always appear to have lots of space?

    Just book early I'm afraid

    Youngest

This is already being discussed in this thread https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/sites-touring/uk-sites-touring/weekend-bookings-something-has-to-be-done/ To avoid duplication I will lock this thread and ask you to add your views to the existing thread.

    Thanks

I correct my earlier comment as I see Youngest has actually liked Banff’s OP in the other thread.

Youngest, why not post in that thread instead of starting a new one? We’re repeating ourselves here.

Edit:  Cross posted with you, David.
