What use is it voting. Its the same old names and hangers on, how long has Grenville been there and still he is the only one you can vote for as Chairman. Its frankly an old boys clubs which suits Nick Lomas and his crew because he has them like tame lap dogs.

The club needs new blood, younger members pressing for change and progress. Its about time all those being voted for this year ought to step down, whilst Nick Lomas looks like he should take early retirement if the club can afford to pay him off. Then the new blood might be able to challenge this cosy establishment which is well past its sell by date.

I would like to see the web site improved with or without a vote I'm wondering if there is the executive will to improve it?

Well the only way for change is to vote and at least by voting on line you do not have to go to the AGM (unless you want to) and if you feel you can do better and have the time please apply.

It didn't strike me as a particularly competitive election - just a take it or leave it list of names without choices.

I agree but if the majority of members vote to oust Greville then the club have to take action or maybe no one else has thrown their hat into the ring?

Did you have the same stance towards the last general election or even Brexit for that matter? If more people were prepared to stand up and be counted the world would be a better place.

    Vote Nowwink

But in the General Election there is a choice of candidates - with this Club election there isn't .

I read the candidates "biographies" but I was hoping to read a bit more about their thoughts on the future of the club etc.

I don't mind reading things like "I have a nice Labrador" but I would also like to read  "I am interested in sites acquisitions or IT....or the demise of diesel tow cars.

As far as I'm concerned they are the type to give Women a bad name.

I haven’t voted yet, because the web link wasn’t working earlier (no surprise there!) I’ll try again tomorrow.

I too am unimpressed by the lack of choice......basically, accept the names put forward or not. Not much of a vote. Especially when asked to accept or reject “up to 30 club council members” and being presented with 22 names, with no profile or details about them and no ability to select some and not others.

However, regarding the comments about Grenville......having met and talked to the gentleman, I found him to be just that - a gentleman who is committed to helping the Club. Do people realise that he is a volunteer and gives a massive amount of his time and effort for free? He is a committed caravanner / motorhomer and I would say that we are lucky to have him as a chairman.

I think that's a fair comment Ian, I'm sure they are all decent, hard working volunteers. But it would be good to hear a bit more about their views on the club in general. smile

I couldn't agree more!  I've never failed to vote in a general elections and only missed one council election in nearly 50 years through ill-health.  However, I have never voted in an election for the CC/CMC or C&CC though we've been members of both for 30 to 40 years/.  My reason is that the elections are worse than ones for the convener for the staff union in the Stasi.  Why worse?  In East Germany you could only vote for the party hacks (same as CMC and C&CC) but you were allowed to know their views and what they stood for, even if you might disagree with everything.  In the CMC and C&CC elections its against the rules to know what they stand for.  I will not vote until I know what I'm voting for.

Rant over!!!!!  Take the blood pressure tablets. Breath deeply.

I tend to treat elections of Club officials rather like I do elections for the board of Nationwide Building Society or Co-Operative Energy, I don't partake because I am not sure what the people standing (as excellent as they may be) stand for as far as the future of the Club is concerned. I am sure they have the best interests of the Club at heart but like Brue I don't know what their vision is for the Club going forward. I am sure there is an element of steady as she goes in the approach to the Club but me voting doesn't actually change anything as far as I can see?

Having said all that I don't understand this antipathy towards the Chairman. Having met and chatted to him 3 or 4 times I think the Club is very much part of his life and for the role is a very good candidate.

I agree, I can see no point in voting unless there are at least couple of candidates for a post or you know what the nominee stands for.

As far as I understand to be able to stand you need to be a member of the executive Comittee.  The Executive committee is wholly or largely appointed body.   Therefore the candidates all tend,to be shall we say similar.   RIght school, middle aged, middle class ( The aristrocracy get the president and Vice President positions)   in the vast majority of cases male.   It’s self selecting and self replicating   If I am incorrect please correct me.

I think that in this case W&J is completely correct in his analysis in the final sentence of his first paragraph.   The Executive comittee, who I am sure are well meaning and nice chaps have allowed the tail to wag the (lap)dog.

Why did not Mr Lomas truthfully tell us that the officers and Executive have all been elected unopposed? Why the pretence of a vote?

The Club should think about videoing and posting the AGM, much like many Councils and other organisations do in this day and age. Will give members a true insight into what happens, is it worth attending in person, how much decision making goes on, etc.....

It will be like watching paint dry in the main, but gives enough of a glimpse to see how and who are effective, what truly happens, is it worth going when it's held in home area etc......

Truly takes it out to the membership, if they are interested.

The trouble in life is that some people think they can do a job better than that person in charge, but given the opportunity to do so results in that person suddenly being to busy to do it

iv'e never meet any of people in charge of the club ,and i'm quite happy for them to carry on , unless Wayne and Judie offer themselves as chairperson ,then I would vote for them !wink

    +1 for HD

also W&J in your view what has the club or the chairman done wrong? the re-brand has according to the club brought in new members, sites are popular, standards are still high and you seem to use club sites a lot.

Why is new blood needed in your opinion?

Perhaps we need a "none of the above" box that we can tick.
