Jockey wheel

have twin wheel rambler 21/6 (advante 840) bought last year in the early days the jockey wheel unwound grating on the road (I know what I did wrong)

its still works but makes an occasional noise when motor moving on gravel 

thinking of putting a pneumatic one on

the width between the forks is 80mm

When researching some people say they puncture?

would I need to change the whole jockey wheel assembly?

Your thoughts please

    You will need to change the complete unit as the fork where the wheel is situated will not accommodate a pneumatic wheel

    I replaced mine this year with one of these.  Replacement Wheel  Its so much better than the nasty plastic one that was fitted and rolls across hard standing surfaces perfectly.    Its a straight swap if you have the same 20mm diameter axle tube and you just need to buy some 20mm ID steel washers to act as spacers as it's not as wide as the original.

    pneumatic wheel will NOT fit in the forks where as a solid rubber will

    We use a pneumatic having changed the fork to suit and found it far better on gravel and grass. However I would say to avoid those with  a plastic centre and would recommend also in buying a tyre with a high psi as we find it avoids the tyre being 'squashed' profile as the van turns when using the mover.

     The tyre and rim are rated to carry upto 150kg with the max psi of 57.

    The jockey wheel is an Alko buy.

    We did use for a brief period a cheaper tyre on a plastic rim which had a max psi of 36 and we noticed when moving the van with the mover the tyres profile was easily distorted and risking puncturing.

    We upgraded to a pneumatic tyre in the 1990s and without any doubt, it was a huge improvement on the narrow, solid tyre which it replaced. But within two years, random deflation, at inconvenient times, increased to a point where we reverted to a solid wheel. But by now, we had wider forks for the inflatable, so its replacement was a wide solid tyre. While not quite as good as the pneumatic tyre, it was a huge improvement on the manufacturer fitted, narrow one. And reliably maintainance free. We’re still using solids.

    I've put a pneumatic tyre on my caravan and I'm now not afraid of punctures cause I've taken the valve out and put a quantity of a product called goop which prevents punctures in tires and last for the lifetime of the time managed to get my coop off of eBay for quite a good price also so me in caravan tyres to stop a puncture
