Wasn't that much last year £22 or there abouts. I remember it was £2.75p.n. more than Godrevy but then it was hardstandings, bar and very nice restaurant and excellent facilities, easy walk into to St Ives but a tougher uphill walk back. If it has gone up to £27 that is probably to pay for the new reception and on site shop?

Inevitably site fees increase year on year as does the cost of a loaf of bread, our road tax and anything else you can think of.

The only relevant measurement is whether the costs remain at the same ratio to commercial sites, whether that be lower or higher, but to measure that it’s necessary to choose sites in the same area with like for like facilities and running costs. A near impossible task I reckon.

I'm sorry that you had to cancel before the 72 hour rule then come on here and ask question about cheaper sits somewhere else. Its about time the club started taking a small deposit to stop this kind of action, some other club member may have had to look at some place else to stay and the club lost out because of this action.

It broke no rules and was quite legitimate. Cancellations/deposits are not the topic of this thread.

Hi Letouriste. Your post replicates a discussion I started the other month which received 324 comments - worth having a look.

It may not be the topic but its a fact you lot take the club for granted and others loose out because of these actions.

so let me get this straight, we book club sites (these actions?) and use them and others lose out because of our actions?  Who is this 'lot' people who book club sites?

what do you suggest 'us lot' do? I want to go away on a club site, I enjoy booking ahead but I shouldn't because someone else might want my pitch? They are losing out because of my booking?

I was going to book a week end of October and wondered whey there was a £2 difference per adult for that week, only when daughter-in-law said half term holidays that it clicked more money for the club. taking the pi**. just like travel agents/foreign holiday hotels etc etc. the club must be rubbing their hand together every time a school holiday is due. Shameful.

One could try wild camping, if you then compare the overall cost of a holiday doing that it really will make a significant difference. Not that I've tried this but some swear by it.wink

Seems a bit daft this thread. I wish to be at Southport for 2 weeks at Christmas. In my opinion the Club site there is really too expensive. I will however pay the price simply because it is located where I wish to be. If I wanted cheaper I could find cheaper locally ......... I would not stay over 300 miles away in Inverness for a cheaper deal!

I would imagine that if the club saw occupancy rates fall below a certain percentage the nightly fees would be reduced. By and large, however, I don't think they need to adjust anything by much as long as enough members continue to use club sites at the higher prices, presumably because they can afford to. We tend to shop around for sites, in much the same way as we do with Aldi v Sainsbury's or insurance etc etc.... and if we discover that at a particular club site on the dates we require is more than we are prepared to pay, we look for an alternative option.

I recently had an Email from the Club inviting me to take an autumn break at centenary in the New Forest. As it makes a good short break location not too far from home, I investigated. Considering that it is now 'low season', I found the price eye-watering. The same applied to Black Knowle when I checked that.

In the final analysis, we are only being provided with a parking place, a bit of electricity and a toilet block yet the prices seem to bear no relation to what is provided  compared to other types of 'holiday accommodation. Like many others, it is only the CL network that keeps me on board.

To me there does appear to be a core of members who are happy to fritter away their 'hard-earned' changing their vans every five minutes and paying through the nose for a prestigious pitch. I want more 'bang for my buck'.

It wouldn’t be cheaper after the extra fuel costs ET, I inputted the figures into the computer & it reads-‘does not compute, illogical’, are you feeling ok?🤔😊

It does not seem particularly surprising that prices rise, the sites are more popular. At least they are sticking to just a week.

However, I assume the £2 you quote is the total rise per night, rather than the increase in adult price. At Chatsworth the adult rise is 40p, child no change, pitch £1.60. Totalling £2.40 a night more for a family of four. £16.8 for the week. Hardly excessive in my opinion.

    Depends where you live thoughwink

If you lived in Bristol probably either site is similar distance.

We clearly have a different definition of eye-watering CY.  That's a phrase I would tend to use for many local authority and hospital parking charges. A week at the New Forest site, out of half term, is  £168.70 for two with electric, £122.50 non EHU. I am sure you can find other  cheaper sites, but I quite liked the New Forest site and consider the asking price reasonable.

Oh we kept our first van 8 years, this one 5 so far.😀

We have been advised/told by our sprogs that we have earned our retirement and to make the most of it ,and in their words we are not interested in your money ,as we mostly earn far more than you did ,and as you have willed the house to us ,why should you not spend your savings as you want,,so since 2008 at state pension age we have ,although I retired as they say from my "proper job" in 1994

The difference between someone's idea of expensive and another's idea of good value is down to each individual's amount of disposable income. I personally find around £25 per night my absolute top limit unless I have a very very special reason to be there. We prefer to pay much less per night and go more often as our annual budget remains the same. The more we pay per night, the fewer nights we are able to go that year. When we were both working, we probably had around double the amount of disposable income so it was a whole different scenario.
