The increasing cost of site fees.
We were due to spend three weeks this September at the Sandringham club site. At the last minute, and not breaking the 72-hour rule, we changed our minds and opted for a fully serviced pitch with hardstanding at an adults-only site in Cornwall for the same three weeks. Admittedly, the amenity blocks were not quite up to CMC standards, but we use our van's facilities anyhow so that was irrelevant. The EHU was 10 amps (not 16 amps) but that caused us no problems.
What was relevant, is that the total cost of the pitch fees was exactly £200 less than we would have paid at Sandringham.

It’s a different site in a different area providing different standards of facilities and doubtless with very different running costs.
Without knowing the Cornish site it’s hard to be more specific but I bet the ground rent/lease at Sandringham is sky high. You are not comparing like with like so why does the price differential surprise you?

Glad you enjoyed Cornwall. We have loads of good independent sites here for visitors to choose from.

Aha, the loyalists are out tonight
Here in Cornwall we have nine of the Top 100 sites in the country - as voted for by Practical Caravan readers. Alas our Club sites don't seem to have been chosen.
Come on down. We welcome visitors at this time of year.

We do, indeed, but there’s no way I’d compare them to Sandringham.

It pays to be flexible in terms of choosing sites. If something other than a Club Site provides you with everything you need, in comfort, safety and reliability, then if it saves you money, it can mean more Site nights out. Conversely, at times we find some Club Sites better value for money than even CLs during the off peak times when prices are lower.

Some difference, yes, but £200 worth? Not on your Nelly. We have been going to Cornwall, on and off, for years, eurotraveller. In recent times we have noticed that the season has extended somewhat, and even at this time of year the feeling of being overcrowded is always in evidence. I am bound to notice this, since I first started to go to Cornwall with my parents 79 years ago. As with other popular areas, things have changed greatly over the years. At my age, I can at least say that I enjoyed many holiday destinations, including Cornwall, when they were still in their heyday. When we first started caravanning, an amenity block was the only facility on site - no EHU's, your van relied on gas lights or tapping off the car battery for lighting - and water was collected from a communal tap and arrived at the van sink by foot pump or hand pump. By today's standards, pitch fees were ridiculously cheap.
We've given up a lot to be where we are today.

Rude!😳

I dispute the statement of an extended season in Cornwall. It’s a short season with only a few of us oldies around at this time. It’s also very weather dependant which is a shame as there’s always something worth seeing or doing.
Times have changed, LeT, and it’s no good hankering back to the 'good old days'. Evolve or die, as the saying goes.

That's a rather odd/patronising first sentence there, et! Are we not allowed to question the comparison between two sites of different standards in completely different areas of the country without being labelled then? As a matter of fact, I agree that Sandringham is rather pricey; we visited Norfolk early last year, but decided to stay on a C&CC CS site which was much more economical had 16A EHU and a toilet & shower. No need to go somewhere completely different!
And, yes, we'll be coming down to stay in a very good non club site in Cornwall just next week!

Agree with all above and especially there is no point in comparing two different locations with different supply and demand/costs, but well great! you have found a site that is £200 cheaper, although it sounds inferior to me then if its really good for you, saving you £9.50 per day then great. Is petrol factored in btw?
I'm just asking what is the point of your thread? surely everyone shops around for the best price for what they want to pay and then buys it.
I got bread at Aldi today cheaper than Sainburys, shall I go on the sainburys forum to tell them?

you mean 2M on name change and 24 M on refurbishments?

But far more user friendly motor caravan waste points than found on most other UK sites just to as might have been mentioned before, cater for poor design of the waste outlets on said vehicles
And agree the nearly two million pounds spent to change the name for no return that can be seen,
So two expensive costs to "satisfy?"just one section of the membership

Change the record, JV.

I suppose it depends if the club thinks it has been wasted?

It doesn't look like the name change has done much good and not sure the motorhome dump point improvements have cost that much but I for one appreciate the effort to make things easier. Having bust my waste drain tap on the last trip out, I am in the process of taking the opportunity to fit a motor driven ball valve replacement, controlled from the cab, to make things even easier still.
I stayed at Polmanter last year, cost a bit more than Godrevy but a cut above most CMC sites. Was that one of the 9 ET? Wouldn't surprise me.

Back on topic, as the title was increasing cost of site fees? Who or what is the OP basing this increasing cost on? I would base it on the previous year's fee for the club? That gives a true picture on increasing costs.
Basing it on one non club site just doesn't make sense? You can always find non club sites that are cheaper and of course find non club sites that are more expensive, so I could find a site (in a total opposite area of the country) that is more expensive than one particular club site and start a thread the decreasing cost of site fees?
