A good idea ?

Just a thought ?   Like many I have seen people on site who are new to the hobby or having some sort of issue with something.

My classic car club operates a scheme where members can add their name to a list and get a small sticker for the car windscreen to show they are willing to help out, if they can, in anyway.

It could work for this club I think and anyone looking for help would know that asking that person in the opposite pitch for assistance is likely to met with a friendly willing response to their request having seen the sticker.

What do you reckon folks.

I think that sounds like a good idea.

I think I can recall it being brought up before. If I'm correct it obviously didn't go down well 😉.

I know Solo's designed their own as did CT I believe. I've never seen either on site.

Edit were always happy to help but don't have much in the way of technical know-how 😉. If I see someone struggling I'll offer some help but it's hard to know if/when, also you don't want to appear to have been curtain twitching whist they set up etc, but it's not always possible to be casually walking by and notice 😉. Maybe something that shows someone is open to offers of assistance could help?

    Yes it would work.

I also think it is quite easy to spot someone having trouble, either they have a pained expression on their face and/or walk about the van looking at things for a longer time than normal. Often I'll ask if they want help.

One thing I would add on this sticker is help offered (apart from awnings) smile

Why not supply people with a red flag so if they are having issues they can put it up and wait for help?  People are reluctant to ask for help so this would then allow fellow campers to see they are in trouble and pop over or hide from themsmile

I think most of us already offer help if we see it’s needed. It’s something I’ve witnessed many a time and there have been a couple of occasions where I’ve sought help and it’s never been refused.

Although the sticker idea is good, these things tend to peter out after a while as stickers get lost or damaged and people change vans without moving the sticker across to the new one. I like the thought but have doubts about its perpetuity.

The thing is it's not just technical issues ? At Fairlight Wood the week before last there was an older couple who sadly seemed to really struggle with physical side of initial setting up. I was in two minds if to approach them but didn't want to offend them either.

I have a CT logo which I made and used to display at the front of my van but stopped as I was afraid of being beaten up. sealed  I made one or two different ones.

I used to put mine up in the window of the van when on a club site. Since swapping to the MH I can't recall where I put it for safe-keeping.

Shame that many people think something needs to be displayed showing the offer of help if needed. Also a shame that people in need might have a reluctance to ask.

Don't get me wrong anything to ease the offer of help is good, but it just shows how some have withdrawn into their own little ring fence and will happily watch out of the window at others struggling.

I am not sure stickers would help. Would someone that was new know about the stickers? Would they be embarrassed to ask? Quite a few times I have seen people having a problem with their electric because they don't understand the old fashioned twist and lock connections still used on some sites. When I realise they are having an issue (several trips back and forwards between van and bollard!) I wander over and quietly ask if the have locked it into position, problem solved. I did once get into conversation with someone who was trying to put up a new awning for the first time and was able to point a few things out to him to get him started. Having said that I wouldn't rush to help someone with an awning if they were struggling as I feel it is up to the unit owner to decide if they are fit enough to carry out certain tasks, we all have to cut our cloth so to speak. That may seem mean but we all have to operate within our own capabilities and it would be wrong for someone to arrive on every site expecting help.

    Good idea.

There could be a series of small stickers with willing to help symbols.

For example I am a vehicle electrical engineer and would be happy to help with electrical issues. Others could be plumber (tap), mechanic (spanner), Tech (laptop), Physical (dumbbell), awnings ( mallet), pitching (van) and for CC sites a whole series for 'the rules' experts. (Sorry couldn't resist).

Conversely you could be issued with a set of stickers and if you need help then put one on your front locker.
