Hi just come across something that surprised me and thought that it may shock you too!

I am the proud owner of a classic car, nothing too grand but a classic for all that. On receipt of my insurance renewal this month I was shock to find that it referred to an accident that I was believed to have had in 2016. The classic wasn't on the road then, but was on a SORN declaration.

I queried the 'accident' and was told that it included any accident, in any car. Again, I hadn't had a accident in any car so I told them so.

Later the quoted accident cost (£5500) and the year clicked. I had made a claim on my caravan insurance for some damage to the caravan on a site in France. The claim had been accepted and the repair carried out.

In my mind it wasn't a car 'accident' but it seems that insurance companies view things differently!

I queried the matter again and that was it. It only pushed my classic insurance up by about £10 so was no great drama in the end. But it goes to show that they are still out to get you!!

Been caught with that one frown

Some 6 + years back my son had an accident in our second car. I was sat at home at the time, he was out on his own and a named driver. At renewal the price was put up despite having NCB protection. when I questioned it I was told as it was my policy & car I had become a greater risk even with him removed as a named driver.

    Very unfair I feel.

What classic car do you have ? I rebuilt/restored this in 2009 and still have it. 45 years old now.

I feel you can't win with insurance, someone went into the back of my car at a roundabout a few years and they admitted liability from the start and repairs carried out. On renewal the premium had gone up slightly and when queried was told even though it wasn't my fault at all I had been 'involved' in an accident and therefore at greater risk!

Nice looking Stag Milo! We have an MGB roadster. A slow resto is ongoing, OH been too ill these last 18 months, and now holidays are priority. Good fun to drive though. Never, ever trust any insurance company, no matter how long you have used them, or what for! Bandits, all of them.

A labour of love but justified when it became a show winner  TDA,  sadly it doesn't get used much nowadays frown

Good luck with your restoration. my friend has one the same (MG Roadster) but a rare factory auto one. less than 400 made I believe. He also has a Stag a Spitfire and Vitesse.

Sorry to the OP for going off topic a little cool

Tis a nice looking Stag. I do hope its got the V8 engine with that wonderful burble. I was lucky enough to drive my brothers but it eventually gave in to the great rust god!

Going back to the post. The insurance industry now register all claims and when you have one they can check on your history although a few do do this at renewal and inception. Basically what seems to have happened was that someone saw the entry and did not read it properly and put it down as a motor claim. It sounds as though after that they were reluctant to accept they made a mistake.

If you find yourself in a position like that the best way to get it seen by someone senior is to make it an official complaint to the address on the insurance literature. It will then go to someone senior, who will look at the complaint and should deal with it although nothing is guaranteed.
