Interestingly the words "will soon be undergoing a major refurbishment"..do not indicate a time frame. When I spoke with the warden on this subject a few weeks ago, he informed me that the refurbishment budget had been set and did not include Lady Margarets Park in the near...or distant future.  Perhaps the club could correct me, in case I have misunderstood the Warden, with a scheduled date for the refurbishment...NB..on a few side streets in Chirk, there are council notices re planning permission for a caravan park just down the road...just a thought.

I understand that LMP is due for refurbishment in 2019.  Planning permission has, I believe, been given to extend the site into what is known as the rally field, although there appears to be no intention at present to extend the site.

When we were at LMP July 2013, the warden told us that the site was being redeveloped in 2015 and this would included the rally field, new shower blocks and more h/s pitches. Sadly we are still waiting.

I hope that JillwithaJay is correct in 2019 as its a lovely place/area.

Does a 'major refurbishment' just mean adding more gravel?

Hopefully not! I know lots of folk want to be away all year - great idea too, but there are lots of ways of reinforcing the grass and ground to allow this without tarmacing or gravelling everywhere 😉. If there's enough space between pitches things don't always have to sit on the same spot either!

Without the ability to book a hardstanding  I hope it will mean more hardstandings especially as the site is open all year. There are currently no serviced pitches at  LMP so I imagine that will be a priority given how popular they are.

Hopefully this implementation will be at the expense of hard standings and NOT grass pitches, presuming that LMP has got the latter.

LMP does have quite a few grass pitches which are taken out of use off season and during wet ground conditions.

There are about 30 grass pitches at LMP. As Jill says they would be taken out of service during bad weather which further restricts the income the site can achieve. If the Club are going to spend a lot of money on upgrading a  site I imagine they also want to maximise the income as well so it is possible that LMP won't have as many grass pitches as now. I suppose it depends what they do with the rally field? Will that be used to create new serviced pitches? If not they will no doubt be created near the main services of a toilet block, currently a lot of the grass pitches are next to the toilet block. The point is that we don't really know but I am sure the refurbishment will satisfy the majority of users.

I imagine this is a contributing factor as to the reason why the Club seem to be adding more hardstandings to sites, generally.  Not only does it make economic sense to install pitches that can be used all year round, but it tends to be a requirement of many caravanners these days, especially with the growth of the Motorhome sector and the respective weight of these vehicles.  I haven't seen any plans for LMP, so can't speculate as to what is planned.

Beyond a few months in the summer I won't go to a site where I don't have a fair chance of getting a hardstanding pitch. One of the problems with sites with lots of grass pitches is the fact that you have to drive across a lot of grass to get to the actual pitch, wouldn't be so bad if it was just a case of reversing off of the site road onto the pitch.

Although open all year, you can’t book it beyond 31/10/21. So perhaps this winter? Clumber Park is similar in that it can’t be booked after 3/1/2022. That could also do with an upgrade.

I wonder what's going on there then? I'll give the site a ring.

A similar thing happened to us a few years ago. We booked a week at Chatsworth for March as soon as it appeared. Then they announced a possible refurb and the dates were all shown as non bookable. As we weren’t planning to go anywhere else we just left the booking. At no time were we contacted and in the end they decided not to do the upgrade and we were able to go.
