Site barrier times - or lack of them!

On many sites in Europe, the site barrier is 'inactive' between certain hours (typically midnight to 8am) so that everyone has chance of a good nights sleep. However, this is not the case on Club sites, but personally, I think this should adopted (those within 20 miles of a ferry/Eurotunnel excepted)

We try to use CLs, but whilst using 2 sites in the last 10 days, we have experienced the following -

Henley Four Oaks - couple on next pitch depart at 5.45am

Moreton in Marsh - Motorhome on next pitch departs at 6.45am

Both departures preceded by noise associated with 'preparations for departure'

What do others think?

I think it’s fine as it is.

C&CC lock their barriers overnight but that doesn’t stop people packing up early.

The big drawback I see with locked barriers is having to be back on site after an evening out in time to beat the curfew to get to my pitch.

Prefer the present set up. I have no desire to leave site at 6.30am but I have absolutely no problem if others do.

I'm sleeping at that time of the morning, then wake up to find outfits have gone already, one of the benefits of hearing aids is that they can be removed.

It doesn't worry me too much as I might find myself in the same situation and have to leave early for some reason. We only use the C&CC sites if we know we won't have to leave them early or come back late from an event. So the club is flexible which is a good thing I think? However I think there may be club sites were the gates are locked, Alderstead Heath is one of them. I don't know if there are others?

How long were you at these sites and how often did the "problem" occur on each site during your stay

I have been on non barrier CC sites were gates are locked overnight but with a tumble lock and the lock combination given. Cadeside and Bourton on the Water spring to mind

+1 for leaving things as they are, we often use the local inns for a meal or drink,  sometimes we stay late and sometimes we don't and would hate to be clock watching.

I think it's down to consideration rater than time, as TW says it is the noise made in preparation rather than the actual time of leaving.

But do CLs have barriers anyway?

6 nights at Henley and 3 at Moreton, with 1 early leaver at each site from the adjacent pitch.

Yes agreed, its the noise associated with the preparations that are the problem - leg winding, locker banging, etc for 20 minutes or so.

It doesn't appear to worry most, so its obviously a personnal thing.

CL's don't often have barriers - but you only have a 1 in 4 chance of someone leaving at 5.45am!

The main culprits for noise, for me, are the sliding doors being slammed shut on the VW van type conversions. Other than that, I rarely hear anyone drive from their pitch

Just because I no longer need to leave site early I see no need to prevent others MM.

Agree, the thing that wakes me up.....and annoys me, is the use of electric drills to wind up corner steady legs and the loud override ratchet sounds, that mean the leg is UP, please stop pressing the trigger.

Or I start pressing MY trigger.

Moan, moan, but only prior to 8.00am.

I have a slidey door van.......but seldom rise before 9.00am.

Hoping for an electric door closer mechanism for Christmas. Hint.

They’re very heavy I believe, Ray.

Slidey door here as well and, sadly, it needs to be slammed to lock but it’s a very rare occurrence for ours to be in use before 9am as well.

I don't mind being woken early in the morning, I'm usually coming around somewhere near 5 am anyway. If Mrs WN is woken it just means we can have an early cuddle rather than wait until she wakes up.kiss

Hate being woken by anyone after I go to sleep at night though as I often have trouble getting back to sleep. Can take hours, so any slidey door user visiting the loo at 11.30 pm please be quiet!yell Thank you.

We are not early risers and yes I hate to be woken up by inconsiderate people who leave early, yet recently at Black Horse farm people were leaving/arriving at all hours. We were not disturbed at all, so it can be done.

As we spend most of our time in Europe we are used to the locked gate/barrier some as early as 22.00 hrs, not a problem for us as we are rarely out at night. However these sites have adequate parking for late returners.

In Germany many sites do not allow vehicles to drive around site between 13.00 -15.00 and again after 21.00, I like these sites wink

Its the warden on his tractor that irritates me, if ever there was a justification for an electric vehicle . . . . . . . .

"However these sites have adequate parking for late returners."

Great if you're only using a car.

"Its the warden on his tractor that irritates me, if ever there was a justification for an electric vehicle . . . . . . . . "

Now that doesn’t bother me at all. It’s just the warden doing his/her job for the benefit of all.

You are on a lockdown site , and heaven forbid you have to get home asap .Even the sound of a car door closing at silly o'clock will wake someone ,but you can't exit the site so rightfully have to wake the warden's . Seems counter productive to me .

I know, been caught out a few times in France, OH won't sit and wait any longer than 30 mins, so we now give the sites a ring first if arriving before 3pm and don't know the site. Back in the days we lived in Germany we got used to the siesta all over europe, doesn't seem as popular these days.
