Set up time
hi all
we had a bit of a debate last night in the pub about average set up time for a caravan and porch awning (inflatable). Friday night weekend set up .
The time it takes from arrival at pitch to sitting having your first beer or Tea.
I was at 45 minutes .
‘My mate was at 2 1/2 hours pmsl.
just wondering ?
oh maybe include time for a weeks stay . I was only at an hour for that mates wife said he takes 2 days Laugh out loud!.

It can be a bit of a spectator sport watching what other folks do, not in a critical way I add. We are light travellers, always have been, even with caravan, so probably an hour max for set up with a full awning with one person doing awning. (T'other is off either dog walking or getting a shop in, we learned long ago a division of labour is best with an awning!)
Five minutes with MH. Gas on, plug in, wind out canopy, peg out dogs, place chairs, cup to mouth!
We have seen folks pull onto site, start set up, we have gone out for day, and they are still at it hours later, but it's not an exact science, each to their own. We ponder more on overloading and weight distribution watching some folks and what they need for a holiday.

I take ages to do it all, but then I don't do it all at once. Only do something when it is needed. So lower steadies and lift out the step might be all that gets done until we need to wash some dishes (and I think we actually carry four times as many as we need!).

It used to take us longer than the OPs 45 min but to be fair we usually stayed at least a week, also I am rather OCD so the awning was always exact. Maybe it took a while but we've never had a 'saggy' awning, as in some we've seen. Agree with other posters, we usually had our own, different, jobs. After initial blowing it up we never put the awning up together! Now with the static van it takes as long as to unpack a suitcase and we are settled in our second home. Love it.

Brake on and unhitch. One of us plugs in electrics while the other one winds legs down. Five minutes, maybe ten? But no awning and no aquaroll to bother with. Our life is simple.

The arrival to the actual pitch could be anything and depends on people in front and then paying, driving round selecting a pitch but about 10 minutes? We have two set up routines, if it's me on my own setting up 'basecamp' with OH to follow after work, I'll take it slow but with no awning it's about 30 minutes from unhitching to sit down.
If there are two of us we have a well practised routine but about 20 minutes without a porch awning and 40 minutes with.

A huge complicated awning?😛

Is that with an awning or without?
If with, is that putting it up with a wind blowing or calm? Remembering where the hammers are or forgetting and having to take the car apart before borrowing next doors? Getting the awning up only to find it's inside out? Curtains or no curtains? Too many imponderables!
If without, 10 minutes max, with both of us mucking in. Mind you it might take us 30 minutes to level the van. Hate cooking or sleeping uphill!

Even our wind out canopy gets called a few names at times😆

If they were unattractive would they have done it quicker or slower DD?🤔🤔

Good question. We’ll never know as he wouldn’t have watched. 🤨

actually I'm glad you mentioned the levelling part, that is usually the longest and Mrs C says I'm too critical of that bubble being dead centre, I also have to get the side to side done s well, I hate not being level that way and yes I can feel it and hate when the wardrobe door swings by it self.

This year in Germany we had a pitch that had a definite slope and also fell away a bit on the other side. We knew we were in for a long set up so I drove the van on sideways, unhitched and got 2 cold beers out. Got 2 chairs out and admired the view of the Alps. Loins suitably girded we checked the leveller and you've guessed it... Perfectly flat!
Couldn't have done if if we tried.

Not exactly F1 pit stop times, any of them. Mind you, having a crew of a dozen or so to set up might seem a bit OTT.

A couple of years ago we parked up on a campsite in Skegness at the same time as a Caravanner who parked alongside us.
It took him around 4 hours to finish erecting the awning, with some verbal help from his better half, before he finally sat down to relax on his holiday.
During that time we had put the handbrake on, kettle on, made tea, drunk tea, walked the dog along the promenade, chairs and table out, had a small beer, read a sizeable portion of a book, had a snooze despite the repetitive hammering and banging nearby and a second long walk with the dog.
Everyone to their own …....

Most of the time we don't bother with an awning as there's only the two of us so, from arrival at pitch and with each of us having our own jobs
- either reversing on or unhitching and using mover
- legs down
- electric cable plugged in
- step positioned outside
- aquaroll filled
- wastemaster in situ
- toilet flush charged
- chairs and table set up
- sitting out with light lunch
approximately 20 minutes

It takes as long as it takes. I don't do rushing.

Well if there is, it definitely ain't coming in my direction I reckon it takes us about two hours from start to finish and considering, once the awning is on the rail it's inflated in 3 minutes, I don't know what takes me so long!
But isn't it fun
