M6 Toll

Came up the M6 toll this afternoon and presented my tariff of £5:30 I was a little on the slow side in handing my club membership card to the kiosk attendant when she said that will be £8:60.

As I handed her my club card she said we can only use it up to the end of this year, has any member heard of this (my membership card expires end of September)

No, I haven't heard anything but many organisations review their offers at the year end so maybe this is one of them.

If a Staff member is anywhere in the vicinity of this thread then could they provide a comment please.

Looks as though the offer is ending this year, I had a quick look at the offers in the membership section, top left on this page and here's the LINK.

    Hi everyone,

Following a lengthy review the M6toll Senior Management Team have decided to withdraw the Caravan and Motorhome Club member offer from 31 December 2018.

As mentioned by brue, we have updated the offer page to let people know and we will also be communicating this to members in the Club magazine.

In that case I won't be using it after that date any more. A pity, for me it was a good perk. Thanks for the advanced warning.

    Rowena

Thanks  for the update. It was good while it lasted. I will probably continue to use it regardless assuming that route suits my travel needs.

It's certainly been useful with all the roadworks still ongoing near the M5/M6 junction. If only the roadworks further north on the M6 could be avoided too!

Slightly off topic but I am sure they were considering extending the M6 Toll northwards but I don't know what has happened to that proposal. You would certainly need a discount code if they did extend itwink

Perhaps it is to subsidise HS2.

Same for me AD. I paid £6.40 a few days ago, motorhome towing a car. Potentially the charge next year could be £17.70. No way am I paying that.

The ownership of that road changed a few months ago. Perhaps the new owners have found the investment was not as good as they thought and have to find ways of increasing income. cry

Never mind - I can still get value for money from the Club magazine (it's nearly time to light the log-burner); The Overseas travel department (Oh! we now have a puppy so will be touring in the UK); the wonderful Club sites even though, for me, they have priced themselves out of the market; the ever expanding CL network (you cannot be serious); the free towbar on a Ssangyong Something (even though they don't have them in stock) and finally, the Great deals from Volvo - all of which I can negotiate myself (and more). I'm sure I must be missing something? undecided

Used it once for the discounted price but will not bother in future. Will put up with the alternatives

+1.  Rip-off Britain strikes again, to have to pay the same as a huge HGV (all but 20p!) seems ridiculous.

If it's losing money - put up the price seems to be the logic from some of these suited accountants.

If they trialled halving the fees I'lI bet more than twice as many people would use toll and maybe reduce the so called losses.

    Just a  thought !!

We use it when we need to. Discount was nice but we'll continue to use if needed.

Brightstar2 I know where you're coming from 😉😁. We have a bus, nowhere as often as it was, down our road rarely does it have a passenger, then they're generally the bus pass folk. Even 20 years ago it was cheaper to take the car and pay car park than catch the bus as 1 adult and 1 child let alone 2.

Have never used it , and would not on principle, bypassing a largely heavily populated area, should be the remit of the Government, NOT private, profit driven companies. Most Trucks still use the main M6, so, the pollution has not been eased for the the unfortunates who live under and around the badly sited original M6. Not usually a politcal animal, but on this issue i think nationialisation is the only answer. Use the money destined for stupid HS2.

It might be useful for some to know that if you stay overnight at the Norton Cannes services on the M6 toll and pay the £30 parking fee it includes a £10 meal voucher and free toll charges. For me, towing a car, that could total £27.70, i.e. the cost of using the toll road would only then be £2.30 plus any extra I pay for meals which would be as little as possible!

Sadly, I find myself using the M6 Toll from tome to time when travelling from home to Brewood on a Thursday night for practice - especially if I'm a little on the late side.  It does make the journey much quicker, but the fairly recent price rise will make me think twice.  The traffic islands and speed cameras on the A5 can be a pain.....

The M6 toll runs from J9 of the M42 to J11a of the M6 around the north of Birmingham.
