The seasonal pitch is the sign of the future, as the years progress less pitches for touring and the growth of pods, yurts etc and that will lead to less seasonal pitches, we can moan about seasonal pitches being the end but is only the beginning of the end of caravaning as we know it, so guy's and galls enjoy whilst you can or go back to tenting and nature. This member would not allow season pitches of any form, sad day for a touring organisation but I think they dropped enroute years ago, should have paid more attention then, now it is too late.😨

I have no knowledge of seasonal pitches so can’t comment but was interested in Hookers post above. What evidence is there that touring/seasonal pitches have been taken out of service to accommodate hobbit houses etc. At Rookesbury I think they used part of the dog walked create the tent field

do you really mean that?

Seasonal pitches are most definitely the future, in the short to medium period anyway. With the surge in Yurts, Pods and other permanent structures on what used to be purely touring pitches,----- allowing those who still have caravans, to pitch them for the season is the next logical step.---- With the forthcoming changes and restrictions in large towcars people will be moving to much smaller, more economic vehicles meaning that tugging a large tin box all over the country, will be a thing of the past. People will soon get used to quick and economic journeys to site with little or no setup on arrival.
Touring with your own accommodation will be predominately be in small Campervans powered by non- fossil fuels.
Just a thought .

That sums it up pretty well, the only thing we do not know is the time frame, so if you tour with a large unit think on, the end is nigh I am at the age it will not effect me but if you are thirty ish think on.

Certainly won't happen in my life time and that of anyone that posts on here.

The change has already started, the growth in small units and stand alone tents or shall we say free standing awnings is on the increase, a small and perceptible drift away from large units back to the minivan and a lilo😀

My thought are that the change to static accommodation has started but in a small way. What happens in the long term could very well depend on the development of non-fossil fuel vehicles.
The Club is already experimenting with pods on some sites, and even the option of hiring airstream caravans. There has been the option of seasons pitches on some sites for quite a while. It is relatively small on CAMC sites at the moment but I suspect it might grow. However at the moment it is a small part, and as Nellie suggests, I don't think we will see a 'complete change' in out lifetime, but an eventual change is certaonly not beyond possibility.
I recently read (can't remember where) that the folks who were currently finding 'static' accommodation attractive were mainly those who felt unable to continue towing (often because of age/ illness), and family members or friends who do not have a caravan/ motorhome who wish to go away with other family members/ friends who do have their own caravan/ motorhome. I can see they might also be attractive to those who might be considering purchasing their own unit, or those with units who might not want to bother towing if they only intended to be out for one night etc.
It is really difficult to judge how vehicle will develop and whether or not vehicles that run on 'non-fossil fuel' will eventually be able to pull a caravan. I think there are some vehicles that ar being developed capable of towing 1800kg+ caravand, but at the .moment they tend to be expensive vehicles. I know there are some issues about how well an electric car can stand up to towing, even if is 'capable' of towing. I guess we shall have to wait and see what happens....

This sort of thing is already happening but it would be taking the discussion away from seasonal pitches to go further into it. I think seasonal pitches might increase if fossil fuels are phased out and there is a surfeit of vans left unused.
