Changing pitches after first night
We are staying on CMC site and am seeing something I’ve not come across before - at least not in such numbers: people have arrived yesterday and gone onto a pitch but this morning are moving to different pitch! Is this peculiar to this site - Black Knowl - or does it happen a lot and I’ve not noticed before. Can’t quite grasp why they didn’t settle on the initial choice or if they think they will get more choice today arrive a day later & save a pitch fee.

We used a different pitch each night on one CL we visited, and done similar oh a Club Site in Winter! Variety is the spice of life!

Bit pointless speculating why people do what they do without asking them.
Maybe they discovered they were next to a yapping dog or a family with noisy kids. Just saying.

people like different pitches and their positions on a site, if they are staying short term it may not matter, if it's longer then moving pitch is a small effort to get what you want.

It's up to them if they want to change pitches. I guess the big question is, if you change pitches, should you be allowed to change before 12 o'clock. If so, would this give you an unfair advantage over anyone arriving that day who otherwise would not be able to get on site that early. 😀😀 😉

Could be that the occupants of the pitch was one of those that the site staff allowed to stay on "For Free" in the afternoon. When they eventually vacate the "For Free" pitch, I see no reason why another customer can't swap to that pitch. (A doddle if it's a Motorhome) if they prefer that one.

We quite often "stay for a free afternoon", on our last day. Means we can take our time packing up, walking dogs, having a bite of lunch before heading off. Easy and perfectly acceptable if you ask owners or Site Wardens. In Winter, when there's only a couple of you on site.

I've noticed this a few times on site, only once as far as I can remember was it a caravan. Usually it's motorhomers for whom it's obviously much easier. I just put it down to them being more doddery and less decisive!

We did once do it at Kessingland. I (?) insisted that we should have a pitch in the beachside area. This was lovely until the wind came up. The wind got stronger and stronger. First we took the porch awning down but that didn't really improved anything as the van was getting a battering. In the end we moved to the inland section with partly cooked casserole in the sink and packed with tea towels!!!

I first saw this at St Agnes Beacon site last year, migration toward perceived premium spots. Sort of thing that could catch on, if everyone starts doing this and it crosses over with early arrivers it could be tricky for the wardens to keep track of vacant pitches.
Personally once I'm pitched I can't be @rse'd to move as we are usually out and about.

I would assume that people who move, do this because the pitch or area they want is not available when they arrive and move if a pitch they like better becomes free. Far too much bother for us, but as long as they and the wardens are happy who cares.

Agree, too much hassle if you have an awning up, but with a lot of sites being fully and almost fully booked, its easy to end up on an unsuitabe pitch....being free to move to any empty pitch of the same type is one of the good things about THIS club.

My girlfriend and I like to watch the sunset - from outside if possible but from indoors when its too cold. It is not always possible to get a suitable pitch on arrival, but discussing who is leaving the next day with the wardens lets us choose a first night pitch that will make a move easy. The motor mover goes very gently, so everything can be left where it is - even the Espresso machine. Just two water containers to roll along and the EHU cable to relocate - job done.

I'm currently on a tour of the UK in a motorhome, stayed at around 16 CAMC sites so far and this happens alot, I do it quite a bit myself if needed for example, if you arrive at 4/5pm you usually get the dog eared pitches of mud or puddles! Or next to the main road for example, so when everyone vacates in a morning by 12pm you have an hour to move, just the way it goes, although it doesnt half confuse (some) of the staff, most Id say 98% just ask you to swap your barrier fob once moved, but just now Ive been told in no uncertain terms its against club rules!? Apparently you cant just move without telling them first, bearing in mind the offices don't open until 1pm for when the newbies arrive! Seems some staff are just pedantic and most dont see an issue 🤣🤣🤣

Surely you talk to the wardens before changing pitches? Apart from being courteous, us campers have no way of knowing what plans site staff may have for the pitches.
I've changed pitches myself but only with the warden's permission.
