yes had one for a few seasons (it was the Autumn seasonal) some years ago. The pros are no setting up apart from water and electrics, no towing, leave home when you like and leave the site when you like. I would say don't get one too many miles or hours away and make sure there is enough to do in the area to keep you amused (we were in the lakes and we loved walking and climbing). On club sites you personally have a max stay of 21 days, have a day off site then return for the next 21. The van stays of course. It is, or maybe cheaper as you pay the fee and it covers all occupants. Any other questions you think of just ask.

Never had a seasonal pitch but for me it would not suit at present. I did however have a caravan stored on a site near Garstang for a few years for 6 months of each year. It suited me well as, at that time as I was on my own, liked fishing and was able to leave work at 2pm, drive 70 miles, and be off fishing by 3.30pm. The owner would site the caravan for me. It worked for me because there was coarse fishing on site, trout fishing river nearby, sea fishing not too far, good section of canal, pleasant village nearby. I would go there 2 or 3 times a month for 4 nights and leave early on a Monday morning for work. Parked car on the site car park the night before departure and be in work for 8am. I was fortunate that I was not charged storage or for siting the caravan.
It worked for me only because I had an interest to occupy me and nobody else to please.

Of course 'in our day' we would arrive to a cold van but I suppose with the likes of the Swift command app you can turn the gas heating on before you get there with your phone?

Don't think I would leave my gas turned on at the bottle when not in attendance for an extended period of time, not a wise move in my honest opinion

I used a CL in the Lakes for 3 months whilst I was doing some research on Wast Water and only for long weekends. It was perfect for me and worked out cheaper to site the van than to tow it to and fro every weekend even though I paid weekly fees

we have filed the form in today for a season pitch wont know if we get one as only ten pitches so we go in a ballot to see if we get one if we do you have to pay all upfront straight away even lo the site not open to march

I think you can pay in instalments.

yes you can pay 4 instalments does anyone know if I can still use other sites or will it come up that I am already on a site thanks

I think the important thing to do is read the T&C for seasonal pitches, they may not suit everyone but great when they do. I'm sure in applying for such a pitch the process is fair with no preconceived judgements being made about the possible occupants and that the process is correctly open to 'all' members.

do the wardens have any input to who gets a season pitch I don't understand the site we have gone for is never full not even bank holidays but they only have ten season pitches from march to october we spent 12 hundred pound with the club last year so they will be 4 hundred pound up

I wouldn’t think the wardens would have any input at all, CM. A ballot is exactly that and I imagine it will be administered by head office. It would be unfair on others for anything other than that to take place.

From my observations it appears to be only those sites which have a year on year pattern of spare capacity throughout the season which provide seasonal pitches. Afterall, if they could be filled with tourers for much of the season then keeping them as touring pitches would make economical sense.

I am confused every time I log on to see comments most have been removed who is removing them and why
Moderator Comment - There is no need to ask why posts are Deleted User. If any of them were remotely anything to do with the subject matter and answering the original question they would still be here.

With so many deletions it would make more sense to close the thread.
Moderator Comment - Don't think that has not crossed my mind! The OP seems to asking a serious question and to delete it because a few irresponsible people are trolling the discussion seems somewhat unfair.

does anyone know if you can choose your pitch for the season or are you allocated a pitch

I think, they generally allocate seasonal pitches, as M said, and I believe they often spread them out around the site so as not to have a cluster of seasonals.

The instructions to site wardens that had seasonal pitches was that there must be a least two touring pitches between each seasonal pitch to stop bunching they must not be on any prime touring pitch and there should be more pitches made available on the site than seasonal people to enable a choice for the last booked seasonal that arrives,

thanks so if you get a bad pitch your stuck maybe season pitch not looking good after all

In fairness there must be a difference then between a "prime" pitch and a perfectly acceptable pitch because I can think of seasonal pitches at New England Bay & Troutbeck Head (if not changed since refurb) that are in good spots.....

We had a winter seasonal pitch at Ferry Meadows a couple of years ago. The rationale behind it being exactly the same, Grandchildren commitment and the ability to get away quickly when time allowed. Also, influenced by not needing to tow in bad weather. It worked well for us. Mainly because, we were only an hour from home. Ferry Meadows is ideal for short walks (getting a breath of fresh air in colder weather). We were able to select our own pitch and whilst you still have to set up on arrival you are quickly in doors with the kettle on, no pitching, levelling etc. In terms of value for money probably didn't quite break even. Life got in the way and we didn't get to spend as many nights on site as we hoped. But you also need to take into account cheaper journey with no towing and no storage cost. Hope all works out for you!
