CL's - A survey to gather your views

My point really was that we all have choice and it was my way of saying well done to Corners for sticking to his guns and using the type of site he likes without being cajoled into trying something he knows full well is not for him.
To a certain extent, I agree with him that 'proper' sites are best (for me) but I do use CLs on occasion when it suits but I’m darned fussy about which I choose.
However, although a muddy field and a tap hold no attraction for me as that’s what many sites were like when we started vanning and I’ve moved on since then, I realise it’s what many want so I champion choice and the right for us all to exercise that choice without criticism or scorn being directed at us. I do not point the finger at anyone in particular with that remark.

I did reply no and there was not follow on questions (I think from memory, but I did drink a lot last week) which is why I posted as I did

Yes I know it was posted in a friendly way and I replied as such.
PS - You revealed my true identity

I'm puzzled by this "bathroom as storage" thing. Does that not also render it unusable as a loo or is that a "toilet block" trip as well, even in the middle of the night? I suppose that might not apply to those with a cavernous 'full width, end bathroom".

The survey will close to submissions this weekend.
Over 830 people have so far responded, which I feel should give us a reasonably valid set of indicators. The data may take a while to analyse, but as promised, we will provide a report here on CT.
Thank you to all who responded to the survey.
It may not have been to the liking of all, and as ever the CT community have not held back in voicing their opinions(!), but it has proven that there are a large number of people who are keen to provide their thoughts on CLs.
Thank you again.

We have quite a small bathroom but I didn't say bathroom at all, I said shower, we have a fully enclosed shower cubical and we use the tray for storage and the upper parts as a place for towels drying and/or clothes while on site. Access to the 'facilities' is kept fully clear.
Off topic is it possible for van makers to have subdued or dim-able lighting in there, night trips with full lights on when you go in there tends to really hurt my eyes and wake me up. I know 'sonar' can be used but...

I don't think it's uncommon for showers to end up as storage areas, a lot of folks seem to do that. We suspect that the bathroom and cooker in our MH had never been used by a previous owner, both were in perfect condition. A bonus for us. We use both extensively now.
Corners, my OH bought me an egg light for Xmas last year. You can place it anywhere, all it needs is a slight tap, and it gives off a warm glow, perfect for those trips to bathroom, or if your OH gets the munchies in the early hours, and can't find the biscuits in the dark. Dogs love it, means we don't trip over them in dark! I think you can get from Asda, JML type product!

We have a full width bathroom with separate shower, never used it and have removed the shower door and spray unit
Have spring tensioned poles for hanging towels, dogs biscuits and bowls live in there as do the plastic rubbish bin, thinking of putting a shelf in there now
Corners, why do you need a light, I quite like sitting instead of standing now so no aiming required

lol, I will try sitting

It is now on my to buy list thanks

I've fitted a small battery light in the 'little room' to avoid night dazzle.

Although our van was manufactured with floor level, dim, safety lights, we don’t use them. Being of an age when a quick pee in the night is a biological necessity, we do make frequent use of our on board facilities. But the human body has an inbuilt facility to start waking up with the light of dawn, so it’s best to avoid light if you want to get back to sleep quickly. There’s usually enough moon, star, led light available to make the journey without any supplemental light, so that’s our preference. In the rare cases when there’s more serious business to attend to, our smartphone torches may be utilised. A little, egg type, night light, as suggested above, would be even better than our smartphone solution, perhaps I’ll get one.
Meanwhile I’ll fill in the CL survey expressing a preference for back to nature sites - facilities not required, countryside, peace and quiet essential.

Thank you again to all who completed the survey, it was open to entries for 10 days.
We have over 900 responses. If you are a statistician, perhaps you can provide a 'confidence factor' for this number of responses. However, I believe that this number should provide a representative view of what Members are looking for from the CL network.
The responses will now be analysed and highlights of the analysis shared on CT in due course.
Perhaps it is time to close this thread.?

When I worked we used to have branch surveys which involved about 800 staff and we aimed at getting a minimum of a 90% reply rate which initially we did. So 900 is pretty good I would think and should give you enough to work on. The usefulness might depend on whether the replies were mainly from people who already use CL's or whether you have encouraged enough non users to contribute?
I will close this thread as now the survey has ended there is little point on further contributions. No doubt in time you will come back with a new tread detailing to outcome of the survey?
