Hi all, I have a question, does anyone know, can you walk from the beach at Yellowcraig along the coast to North Berwick. We are pretty fit. I know it's about 3 miles but is there access to do so.

    Yes there is, lovely walk. If tide is out you can use sands for part of the walk. You can walk the other way as well, towards Gullane and Aberlady. It's stunning scenery and walks from this site. Don't miss Dirleton Castle up in the village, and Tantallon Castle further along from North Berwick. Good cycling as well.laughing

    As 'tda' says, if the tide is out you can walk the sands to North Berwick, and an alternative whilst walking along the beach is just before reaching the rocky section along Broad Sands, climb up at the 'burn' onto the coast top and across the bridge then walk into NB without encroaching onto the golf course.

    Thanks both, I have looked on google maps and can see the burn. Planning this as part of a spine of Britain tour.

    As an alternative you could walk across the dunes as far as the golf course and then follow the paths across the course. You can do this whether the tide is in or out. Encroaching on the course has never been a problem and we've walked that way numerous times. The path doesn't at any time cross a fairway and the latter three quarters is along a metalled track.

    Hello youngalan. It depends what sort of cycling you like really, and what sort of fitness levels, but we used an OS map of the area, and found some bridleways, tracks etc...... as well as quiet roads. It's an easy ride into North Berwick and beyond, my OH who likes road cycling covered some of the quieter roads around and about, some as you might expect there with hills and twists and turns. An OS map, or if you can find one, a map with cycling in mind is always a bonus. Some nice places of interest to link up, stop and have a breather and a bite! It's a lovely area. We did see locals using rail link to Edinburgh with bikes, so that is another factor.

    Yellowcraig site is good for cycling. We took our bikes last time and cycled in to North Bereick which is an easy 2-3 miles also we went around some of the quiet roads which took us by some nice places.

    Thank you takethedogalong and Francis - Brilliant - we were there many years ago with the caravan, but cannot remember too much about the area.

    We took our MH up there a couple of years ago, no issues with parking up in little towns and villages. Edinburgh is so easy on rail link along coast road, and you come out of station straight onto Princes Street, so not worth using MH to visit there!

    If it's any help, if you click on "nearby" on the site details page the Sustrans cycle route link will appear, for this area it says it is no.76. Put 76 into the search box on the Sustrans page and the cycle routes will appear, different colours mean, on road, off road etc. You can do this on other site details.
