Formula 1 and a bit
I am sat her in my motorhome watching formula 1 , not on the tv but just looking out of the window , for gods sake why do perfectly normal looking grown up people find it necessary to hurtle round the site at well in excess of the speed limit , what will it take for them to stop , reading lessons so they can understand the 5mph signs or to actually mame or kill someone !!!!!!!

Sorry, I don’t know the reason why. Speak to the wardens about it.

Tried that , but they can only act if they see it happen , and most of the time it is when a lot of vans are just arriving and the wardens are busy booking in etc

Also down to totally wrong approach to site design, wide open spaces simply encourage speed. We have just returned from a fantastic site in Germany where traffic speeds were very, very low. First off site roads were narrow single track with short restricted sight lines between hedges, roads used as shared surfaces with pedestrians, roads used gravel surfacing such the noise created both warned pedestrian traffic but also slows the car driver, two way traffic allowed on all site roads so have to be careful for oncoming users, (they clearly thought me bonkers when I asked about the one way route), huge signage saying the speed limit is snails pace. And probably the most effective signage of all was that parents are responsible for their children and individuals responsible for their own actions, what a novel idea!

It would help if for very little money they installed more and higher speed humps like they have on many side roads in 20mph areas

yes love watching these people slow down for the bumps for their car's tyres then forget they are still towing and speed up and the van leaps off the bumps and comes down again with a very individual sound of springs and crockery bouncing about. Very unique I think.
It is a problem and you are correct, for some reason 5mph seems to be very difficult for these drivers.

Rumble strips are generally more effective than ramps at controlling/reducing vehicle speed and are also effective in slowing cyclists. However, they are more expensive to install and, given modern LV construction, may cause LVs to fall to pieces.

I suggested solar powered signs that tell you your speed once, they always certainly work round here but that perhaps could detract from a site's 'charm' and appeal?

I like them. They concentrate the mind but do rely on people being bothered to look at them.😐

Whilst I don't disagree at all with the 5mph limit on sites (which, incidentally is not walking pace but about double walking pace) just as a point of observation, at my local major hospital with extensive roadways, 6 car parks and many people of all ages and mobility walking around, the speed limit for the whole of the hospital grounds is 15mph. To the best of my knowledge there haven't been any accidents because of this speed limit. Do the hospital know something that the club doesn't. I'm sure they aren't trying to drum up business and increase waiting times even further.

Yes, they know they won’t have children playing or riding bikes, people ambling along with aquarolls and folk generally enjoying themselves with their minds elsewhere because they’re on holiday.

The 5MPH speed limit is very sensible.. On CMC sites, as well as a few young children playing, there will also be old dodders strolling around with failing awareness and hearing. All being in danger from speeders.
Snitching to the site staff achieves nothing, as they have to witness speeding for themselves. It is up to the site staff to be proactive in this respect to ensure that the site for which they are responsible, is a safe environment for their customers.

of course things may changed significantly on CAMC sites in the two years since you last saw one?

Should 'curtain-twitching' be discouraged as it might distract the drivers of passing cars?
