I would be interested to know which hotels Triky. We used to stay in Shanklin many years ago and the family who owned the hotel there also owned a big hotel on the front at Sandown.

Same here. One of my sons has stayed a couple of times in hotels in that area of the Island.

Just nipped into Waitrose to partake in the 25% off wine offer which ends tomorrow. Also applies to boxes of wine which we find handy in the motorhome.

More gardening here today. Sis and Mum turned up yesterday with some lovely daffodil and tulip bulbs, so I need to find a spot for these. I am trying to find ways of making our quite large garden less of a task, so this weekend a longish shady border has gone, all plants removed. Going to bark this and part of a lawn, so there's less mowing, less weeding, and hedges are easier to cut. Going to use large containers dotted onto bark for colour, they will be easier to weed as well being higher. Hoping to find some hydrangeas that like semi shade, plus things to give colour in Spring as well. A nice project, I like doing things like this!

Oh dear Moulesy, it's all a sad process isn't it. We even had to bury the little hamster in our charge two weeks ago. Hope you will remember the happier times soon.
Today I have been sorting out things for my grandson, back to school tomorrow. Hope school goes well for all those returning or just starting.

Moulesy, I am so very sorry to hear about Harry. It must be a very difficult time for you all. How is Lady coping without her friend? Our thoughts are with you all.

Busy last couple of days, merely enjoying ourselves. Yesterday we had a really good 5 hour cycle across wonderful Peak District countryside, nothing better. Today was a gentle 7 mile walk, through different but just as beautiful fields and hills. Even managed by sheer chance to come across a pub that sold Timothy Taylors.
(The Rising Sun in Middleton near Wirkworth).
Gosh, I never fail to fall under the spell of the Peak District.

Thank's David .

Thanks Triky and David. I don't think that is the hotel I was thinking about. Poor people though to lose their business like that.

My Aunt said she always fancied watching a bike race. So today we drove down to Bristol, picked her up and went on to Chew Valley Lake. After lunch in the cafe by the dam, we parked up in one of the long lay-bys beside the lake. She really enjoyed it, as much the police motor bikes roaring past with sirens blaring as the bikes. There was a small breakaway 40 seconds off the front and the Peloton were really chasing hard, so we're past in a flash.

Nice story Steve.
I remember the Tour de France passing through a small town at the foot of the Col du Tourmalet in the Pyrenees. The roads were locked down quite early. The circus that preceeded the racers was over in a blink with toys and sweets just thrown everywhere but watching those men climb that hill as if it was flat was breathtaking. We did have to repair to a local bar to see who made it to the top.
Mizzle here today so we walked into Buxton and spent some money. I can't believe Mrs WN bought some Christmas Cards!

I think Margaret may have beaten her to it!!! We like to buy some RNLI cards every year so we buy them when we can as there aren't many RNLI shops away from the coast!!

Well we are in September so not long to Xmas we will get some when over in the UK in two weeks as they are starting to sell them here but very expensive. Still very hot here 30C but looking like Autumn is on the way. Friends of ours had a forest fire near them came to 150 metres from their house very frightening for them and a lot of black burnt areas also another one about 30 km from our place and you could the smoke billowing for a long way and the fire planes with the red powder they use flying over, we are hoping for a storm later today to cool the air and dampen the ground.
Off for a meal with friends today near Villefranche.
Enjoy your day folks.

I already have some Christmas cards as well. Like you David we like to buy some RNLI cards so get them when on holiday. We bought them from the RNLI station on Cromer Pier this time. People are already buying Christmas cards and 2019 calendars in the Cathedral.
Regarding cycle races - we were in N. France some years ago when we had our motorhome. It was the start of the Tour de France and although the roads were closed we kept being waved through. I think they thought we were part of the support team!!

Beautiful morning, not a cloud in the sky, feeling a bit autumnal though. Picked up my first conker this morning the tree seems to have plenty this year.
Going to spend the morning baking, another batch of Welsh cakes and some Cheese &Marmite sausage rolls that OH likes the sound of. I don't like marmite so he may have to eat the lot!
They can be frozen before cooking so I won't have to cook them all.
Hadnt given Christmas a thought until I came on here!

Millie you really should have taken the Sky sticker of the MH
Mrs One brought some RNLI xmas cards from the booth on Gorleston beach about a month ago.
Light drizzle here this morning. Stood looking out of the window and watched all the little people walking down the road to school as its first day of the new term here.
Grandtwins have gone to Legoland for a couple of days.
Hopefully will have a mini meet with Lutz this morning

When do the grandtwins start school OP? The little Receptions here have a 'staggered' start for a few weeks, some mornings and some afternoons. Then a few days of having lunch at school. It is a bit of a nightmare for working parents. Us grandparents came in very useful for a few years when ours were that age
It is grey and chilly here again today. We are going to take another couple of grandchildren to see the space capsule today. They don't go back to school until; tomorrow.

We were going for a walk this morning, but change of plans required. An inquisitive robin hopped into the van through the open door. Realising there were people it panicked and tried to fly out through the closed roof lite above the beds. It didn't hurt itself and ended up on the glass cooker top, looking at me, before flying out the door.
Berries as a diet make a right mess.😂 Carpet now clean, bedding treated with vanish and in the site washer and second set on bed.😀

Good photo SteveL. We are keen bike race followers, you need to be on an incline, as steep as possible to see more than a flash, they don't half go fast! Good interesting stage yesterday. Starts and finishes are best place to be, lots going on. It's on live on ITV 4 if your Aunt wants to watch more.

Thanks TDA, we told her about ITV 4, told her to watch and see if she could spot herself. However, they jumped from 32 km to 8km and we were at 26km.☹️
As you say the incline does have to be steep to slow them. I was amazed at the speed they were doing when we watched the TDF on the lower slopes of Mount Ventoux, in temperatures of 35C. We were finished after we had carried our picnic stuff the 2km from where we parked.😂
