mmm didn't have you down as an attack the poster rather than the argument type AD.

Though you posted recently (perhaps not on CT but on a CL?) that you didn't like that being done to you?

Anyway I agree with M's post

Interesting thread so far.  Shows snobbery is still alive and kicking within the CMC customer base.

I never mentioned papers! That was someone else. I never suggested much that is now being attributed to me. I guess this happens when a discussion is lost. All I advocated was friendly, neighbourly behaviour.

Out of context as usual K. Please continue to post in your inimitable style as then I know that all is well with the world - business as normal

I don’t think anyone is ever ‘driven out’. Not Merve and not David. If anything like bullying or hounding was taking place then surely the culprits should be dealt with by the CM. I think it’s more a case of people getting sick of the forum or, in some cases, flouncing off because others disagree with them.

Whoops, l'm possibly guilty of the occasional, unintended verbosity. Must try harder! Oh dear, I'm beginning to sound like one of 'those' teachers.
Never guilty of labelling, stereotyping or directly attacking fellow members though.

No Micky, you are one of the good guys. You are an individual, like many of us on here. . LIke most Individuals you have your own opinions. I don't always agree with them, but I find it agreeable to disagree ( if you know what I mean ).  Combined labelling, stereotyping  or directly attacking a poster is definitely not an individual's style. Keep up the good work smile

Being the original poster I feel obliged now to add to the debate. I'm sorry that my post has attracted some tetchy comments, this was never my intention.

I agree that when touring much of the decision is about location and the facilities offered. I do like the club, the consistency of standards; pitch size and toilets etc. I've never yet come across a grumpy warden.

But I also like good quality independent sites and CLs as well as the sites offered by the CCC. I quite like the diversity of campers on these sites, the people and their outfits, tents etc and sometimes it's nice to get away from the regimental approach of the C&M Club.

I would not stay on a national holiday companies commercial site in high season (I guess I mean the likes of Haven Holidays) cause that is not what I want from a site. I don't need a bar, or entertainment and I don't have young children who need to be occupied.

What mainly prompted the post is that the club offers annual wifi for £25 which more often than not doesn't work particularly well whereas the independents include wifi in the price, and their sites, or the ones we visited were good sites.

So thanks for the discussion. I hope no-one got overly wound up about it.

Good that you came back to the thread! I think the wifi can be a touch unpredictable, we have never bothered with it, but others do, with mixed results. Possibly a reasonable investment if you use a lot of Club Sites with decent coverage. We don't, hence we don't bother with it.smile

I used the CC wifi for several years and was pleased with it. Most private sites seem to charge.

Apperley, I wouldn't be over concerned about anyone getting too wound up about your post. Anything which is posted which points out there is another world out there or mentions change to the way the Club does it never goes down well with some on here!

My experience was the same as yours although I don't pay to use Club WiFi. Of the eight sites I used when visiting the west country, a Club site was the most expensive. Only one offered free WiFi but I often find if there is a good 4G signal, using my phone as a hot spot is often better.

Such a long thread. I see little evidence in the thread of mainstream commercial sites being cheaper than CC sites other than for those wanting a serviced pitch for which the  additional charge is far too high IMO

See evidence of CC sites being cheaper or similar in cost to similar commercials nearby and evidence that some use CLs as a cheaper option. This of course ignores any mythical unamed sites used to make comparisons,

Are you comparing like with like though David? The true comparison for those that like what CC sites offer is those offering similar and in the UK.

For many CC users bars, mini supermarkets, restaurants and swimming pools are not what they seek (most of the time at least)

I think there is confusion here between price and value ,

I entirely agree but cheaper does not necessarily mean poor value.

"Price and Value" that opens up a whole new set of options for what ever each individual is looking for,as has been pointed out so many times

I tend to agree that value is all in the individuals own perception. If buying a caravan you can buy a Freedom for about an eighth of the price of an Airstream. They will both do the same job but in completely different ways. What is good value depends on what you want to pay and what you want out of the caravan.

As for sites if you check Practical Caravans regional roundup you will normally find that club sites tend to be just above average for cost which suggests they are not far out with their pricing.

There are far cheaper sites in almost all areas, but they tend to be very small or family run, where costs larger operators have to bear can often be avoided.

Sometimes cheap is the better value though. I have owned a cheap hole punch with a rotating head to select various punch sizes. I have probably used it 12 times in 20 years on various leather belts and straps.
