After years of happy camping I am having a bit of a problem and hope that someone here can help.

I had to have my left leg amputated and am now confined to an electric wheelchair. I just cannot get into a caravan anymore. I tried and badly damaged my remaining leg which has had me confined for 3 years getting that better. We did see a motorhome that had been converted but someone else bought it!!

Please if anyone has any ideas let me know.

thank you

You can get converted caravans and motorhomes. Try  https://www.coachbuiltgb.co.uk/ you can hire one from them if they are near to you.

If you try Google you might find some second hand ones in other places.

The wife of a friend of ours has lost one leg, and the other is straight out and useless to her.  They have a converted VW Caravelle which her husband drives her around in, and it has an electric lift facility at the rear.  I can imagine a motorhome being converted without problems, but a caravan would, I think, be more difficult - the electric lift mechanism would likely soak up (or exceed) the weight margins for loading it.

It sounds as if a motorhome would be the answer, and best wishes in your quest to resume your camping holidays.

The text below was posted by the OP (Contrarycat) in the wrong section.  As I'm unable to transfer a single post, I've copied it to the original thread.

"Thank you all for your replies and suggestions. However the problem occurs before I get out and about. I cannot physically get into a caravan and a ramp would have to be too long and dangerous

The only thing we had looked at was a motorhome that had been converted with an actual lift in it. So would be able to get into the motorhome via a lift then use it as normal. This was certainly the only way we could see.

I am not only an amputee but I also have MS which means I can only manage about 4 steps using a zimmer frame.

I think I have a problem which cannot be solved but I do hope not."
