Glamping pods, Moreton in Marsh
We are due to arrive at the above site next week and have read a couple of reviews regarding noise/disturbance with the works ongoing to install camping pods. Can anyone put my mind at rest as to the level of disturbance and also what's your thoughts on this. Is the caravan club becoming a more commercialised outfit I wonder. We choose sights devoid of tents for a reason, a glamping pod to my mind is the same thing !!!!

There’s nothing like assuming the worst of people, is there? Tent dwellers and pod users must all be noisy and unruly!
For goodness sake, that attitude is what gave the club it’s stuffed shirt image back in the dark ages.😤😤😤

They have 3 of them at Alderstead Heath where I store my Caravan. they are actually very nice small Chalets with a decking area each, they fit in quite well and are well away from the site pitches with their own dedicated parking.
Another example of pre judging something without any prior information ?

well going to Coniston soon and daughter and bf will be using one of those dreaded pods so will be able to report back on level of noise and how close they are to tents! Actually they look pretty inviting and snug.

Not entirely, Goldie. Take another look at the last sentence.

Actually I think you're right. It won't be too long that a 'glamper' will post on here about how noisy those (OAP) folk are in those caravans and MHs.

I like the idea of Pods and other Glamping. Accommodation being available on CMC campsites. Families and young couples don't always want to own a motorhome or caravan, as for some, they are non cost effective.
Allowing a modern attitude to campsites making them inclusive to all sections of campers will engender a whole new social environment. Instead of the elderly, staid, curtain twitching population, we would see a lively socially inclusive mix of people enjoying outdoor interests.
Of course there would be building noise as those pods etc are being constructed.

We have been on a number of Camping Club sites where there have been pods and Ready Camp tents. Didn't notice any difference in behaviour or noise from the other units on the site. In any case it isn't many years ago since we ourselves used a tent for our trips away so I find the idea that those who use tents or pods as undesirables rather insulting. There are sensible quiet people and there are noisy irritating people, but they can be in any type of accommodation in my experience.

If they are being positioned as Steve said I don't think the OP need worry too much about noise as there are not that many pitches near to that place. It is also a large site so providing it is not full when the OP arrives they will have plenty of opportunity to pitch away from where they are being installed. Personally I would imagine that road noise would be a far bigger problem if the OP is sensitive to noise?

Just home from the Moreton In Marsh site. The Glamping pods are situated next to the playground area and away from direct access to the camping area. We did not get any noise or disruption from the construction process that is virtually complete now except for completing their access road.
Longer term I should be surprised if they cause any concern for caravan or motorhome clients.

I’ve just seen the latest review of M-i-M.

There seems to a lot of speculation and misinformation about what is happening. Are they camping pods (the wooden hut type) or the proper Glamping units similar to those at Coniston Park?

The OP tells us that reviews report noise from installation work, but is criticised for criticising pod users and tent people - which he hasn’t. Then we read a series of posts relating to general noise from non caravan/ MH users. For me, the issue is simple, there are a wide variety of options for different styles of camping in the UK, which facilitates freedom of choice. The CMC has long had a market niche in catering for caravans and motorhomes. Which means that its members can exercise freedom of choice not to stay on sites which cater for people without leisure vehicles. So why change to building pods, when there are plenty of non CMC sites which cater for that particular need? We have, over the years, witnessed a steady reduction in CC pitches available at short notice when touring. How long before our club, which was formed to cater for touring vans, forgets its origins and USP?

A business needs to diversify to keep up/ahead of the competition, what’s going to happen long term when we have fewer diesel cars, so less towing, less Motorhomes maybe who knows?
look at the amount of pubs closing down weekly, usually the ones who haven’t started to cater for a different market ie proper food, kids areas, breakfast opening etc. Those who have done this are thriving those who haven’t sadly close or have a very small business.
I for one applaud the club for trying different things, look at the average age of our membership, that need to come down or in 20 odd years we will have very few.
lets see how it goes over the next few years, I’m sure it will be a success as there are plenty of people out there looking for alternative accommodation
Diversity should be seen as a positive step, but hey there are some who post on this forum who kicks the club for everything they do or try.
You can’t please all the people all the time!!

Having read the some of the reviews for the site there appears to be a pattern emerging. Feral children, dogs, cycles, speeding cars and now construction noise. I wonder if the other 100 plus visitors on site had a reasonable holiday. When we are on site we are the type that don't kick around site all day we are out and about for most of the day so all the above would be only be relevant for short periods of the day. If the site was in a location we wanted to be in these negative reviews wouldn't put us off.

For me, more of an issue is the space it has used up. MM is, compared to others already a very crowded site, with little open space and smaller than average pitches. Now they appear to have consumed some of its best feature, the large dog area and playing field.

Kev,
Remember this is club together, an open forum available to everyone. Some folk like a wind up. Don't bite

I hope that the how can you doesn't refer to me as I didn't say that. If you read my post you will see I say I've read the reviews and it is these reviews that make these allegations/comments. Personally I've never seen half the stuff that some folk write about!

Massive changes in demographics for caravan/motorhome users. When I started caravanning there were definitely more older people than younger people on site. I admit that there is an even greater proportion of older people nearly 40 years later. This is not because a lower percentage of the younger people are choosing to caravan than did so 40 years ago.
In the past decade a large number of folk were retired 'early'. The retired caravanning population is able to spend more time doing activities outside of the home and caravanning is one of those. Yes the young is the future but on CC sites for the present the grey pound is probably the main income stream. Caravan sails still appear to be bouyant and so for the next 10 tears I doubt that there will be a great change in the situation.

"We choose sights devoid of tents for a reason, a glamping pod to my mind is the same thing !!!!"
Interesting how at least two replies in this thread criticise other replies saying the OP doesn't have issue with other groups of site users?
Not how I read it
Perhaps the OP would like to elaborate
