Motorhome rear corner steadies
Some of the motorhomes we are considering have the option of rear corner steadies. Are they necessary and do people actually use them?

We have rear cornersteady's on our coachbuilt motorhome. In the 11 years we've owned it I could count on one hand how often they've been down. I can't remember the reasons they were now. First time probably because we tried everything out 😉. We have quite a long overhang from the rear axle and if someone very heavy footed walks in you can be aware of it - might have been another try! Since OH is heavy footed it can't have made a big difference 😂

They help stabilise the van, especially in strong wind, but it isn’t necessary to use them.
We often did on our last van because we used to sit it the rear corners and the steadies provided support and helped prevent movement.

Mine has them but I rarely use them, but to be fair they do steady the van when windy or when you move around inside.

In our second motorhome we found that the back end did seem to move more and OH almost felt seasick at times. So I purchased as set of aluminium jack stands for the rear chassis - about £40 and to be honest they have improved the situation, they are light and don't take up much space.
Yes I have to kneel down to pop them in place but at £40 I'm happy.

the van in our avatar had steadies, but I rarely used them. current van, has a shorter rear overhang and I wouldn't bother, even if it had them, which it doesn't
it's just one extra thing to faff with when setting up or leaving.... we have very little to do when leaving the pitch, I'm happy with it that way...
also, they're more weight I don't need. i run (comfortably) at 3500kg, but there's no point in lugging stuff around that's not needed...
anyway, I'd only leave the damn things down and drive off digging up grass or Tarmac..

We used to have an Autotrail Savannah, which had a large rear overhang, and twin rear single beds, when i used to get up in the night to go to the loo, the vans movement used to wake my wife up.
'Why didnt you pay the extra and get rear corner steadies' like i asked you to ? Every night gets a bit testing.
I bought a set of alloy fiamma jacks off of E-bay...problem solved.
