A Warden's Dilemma
What happens if you arrive at a site but can't find your membership card? Is the Warden supposed to deny you access to the site or ask for other evidence of ID?

yes, as happened to me last June
(Mrs C normally has then and I arrived to set up early)

I'd be extremely angry if site staff denied me access to take up my booking simply because I couldn't produce my membership card. Surely, if all else failed, you could offer alternative ID (driving licence even has your picture on) and they have the means to contact HO to verify your membership number.

Some of us have a parchment driving license, no passport.....and are still too young for a bus pass. Technologically I don't exist, but OH would recognise my scars and my teeth!

Surely this is all hypothetical and the answer to the original question is "no". I mean, has anyone actually been in this position and been denied access? It would be good to hear from one of the wardens who post on here, but I suspect this is a non problem!

One would assume it must happen on a regular basis. Well at least not having a valid card. Ours only appears about 2 weeks before the old one runs out. If we were away, we would not pick it up and the card we had would be invalid.
Not a problem for us as our renewal is January, when we are only away for a few days at the most.

Before I lost my parchment license for the big 70 - I carried a photocopy of my passport in my purse - it was useful on many occasions including at the Post Office when I didn't see I needed ID to collect a parcel!
I can't imagine Wardens not being able to check out the ID if I didn't have my membership card available - the chances of anyone else having a Mitsubishi with my reggo and a Swift Conqueror must be pretty remote! I have to say if they were that bad I would happily move on!

I am sure there must be some aide-memoire instructions issued on this subject?

I forgot my card when I stayed at Edinburgh a couple of months ago, after us all laughing about me being so stupid the warden simply said I was booked in and the names on my credit card matched so there was no problem.
The way it should be I'd say. (I will try not to do it again though).

If you carry a smartphone with email then you'll have all your bookings with you .👍 We do .

I cannot see the point of having to produce your membership card. There is only your signature on there to identify you and you are not asked to sign in so the wardens simply take your word you are who you say. They might be suspicious if you then use a credit card with another name on it but most hardly glance at it. When it is busy sites could save a bit of time booking people in by not asking for a card.

Hi
It's not a dilemma at all. We're given the brief from H/O to ask to see membership cards on arrival. Quite a few folk don't have them in their possession, but there are many ways of checking that take seconds to do. I've had experience of fraudulent use of membership cards but you get a feeling if somethings "not right". A warden does have the right to refuse access but we're talking very different scenarios which thankfully only happen when the moon is blue. We're here to book you in and ensure you have a good holiday, not kick you out 'cos you may be forgetful!

Ah yes, but you clearly have the capability to anticipate what is going to happen....
I have lost track of the number of times I am behind someone at the supermarket till, who after loading their shopping seems to have been taken by surprise to be asked to pay, and then starts a slow paced search of their purse or handbag looking for a card or money....
