Towing electric cable drag & snapped

Hi there I was travelling & my towing electric lead had dropped dragged & snapped while I had the main lights on. I parked up for the evening & made a quick temporary repair to get back home the next day. After I made the repair using electrical connector blocks & a roll of electrical tape I secured it to the A frame using zip ties so it wouldn't drop again while in transit. The lights would still not work but as we were travelling by day I drove back. When I returned  I bought a 10way waterproof electrical junction box a new 7 PIN TOWING ELECTRICS PLUG & SOCKET as i thought it might be the plug or the socket as I connected the 7 wires correctly . I fitted the plug & the socket & the junction box & still the lights won't work. I have checked the bulbs & all are ok. Upon closer inspection of the electrical connections the brown, red & black wires are are not shinny new copper when cut & joined like the others but a charred black with the odd copper strand. Can anyone tell me if the whole cable need rewiring as I wanted to use the caravan this weekend? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    Have you checked any fuses that might be supplying your towing electrics. As lights were on at the time it could've popped a fuse.

    Do the car lights still work?  If not check the appropriate fuse n the car.  Happened to me once.

    the more connections in a cable the possability of faults in the future. I would change the hole cable. is it worth all the joints for £8

    Hi, I did the same thing I had to get a new connector plug and socket because the original cable wasn't long enough after I cut it and made up the wires, also found the fuse had blown, this was one the tow bar installer had fitted that was separate to the car fuses

    May I suggest that you use an appropriate length of elastic looped around the cable and the breakaway cable and hook it on your Tow hitch. Allows for turning and keeps the wire off the ground.
