This might be of interest to some. Today, as I expect did others who have stayed there, I got an email from them asking for help because a new link road is to be built that will affect access to their site just outside of Shrewsbury. This is the link if you feel inclined to follow it up. Apparently the new road will cut through their access road although I couldn't see from the plans what the alternative access was.

Here is another plan. It's difficult to see how the site will operate whilst the work is going on unless they build the access road from Clayton Way to the new roundabout first? It seems as if no provision has been made for pedestrian access to the Park and Ride and the shops which is there at the moment. Perhaps they think no one actual walks from a campsite to local amenities? I can't remember if this is an AS site but you do get a discount on production of your membership card.

It is an AS site David as we were there this year. We did not walk to the P&R David and used the local shops only in passing after a day out but I am sure that many MHs would not wish to try and park in the shopping area and those with larger MHs probably walked to P&R

I noticed that. They only seem live if you access them direct from the planning portal, a bit odd that!

For us Oxon Hall is the ideal sort of campsite for us as its a relatively short walk to the P&R with shops next door. Even when we had  a caravan there is no way we would have taken the car into Shrewsbury, we would have used the bus.

I got my son to look at the planning application a bit more closely and it seems that have made provision for a new cycleway/footpath from near the site entrance to the P&R. It is probably a little longer but not much. It does require crossing the roundabout on the new link road but there is a refuge between the two single lane carriageways. A propose speed limit of 50 mph will slow the traffic a bit. I am not sure the request by the campsite for a footbridge is really feasible given the provision of the new footpath? I think the new link road will provide slightly better access to the campsite when all the work is finished but probably a nightmare whilst the work is in progress!

I have also received the email from Morris leisure. Personally I think that this should remain an issue between the council planners, local residents and the site owners.

As itinerant users of a campsite we don't know the ins and outs of the proposal and why the need for the road has been identified. I am sure that forum users would object if Shrewsbury residents had a say on routes in their areas. The same holds true for our comments about Shrewsbury's roads.

On their Facebook page local residents have already commented about the need for the road to alleviate congestion in and around Shrewsbury.

I appreciate that the site is concerned about the closeness of the road to their site, I expect their static caravans!!! I don't think many tourers would object to the road and I agree that it would be out of place to complain about something thing that won't really affect us. My point in raising this subject was more to do with the access to the P&R but having delved a bit further into the planning with my son ( his area of expertise) I have come to the conclusion that apart from some disruption during construction the planners have done a reasonable job in providing footpaths to the P&R which was my initial concern. I now can't see a case for me to write to the lead planner as my fears have been satisfied.
