+1, it’s the people(the same ones too☹️) who cause the issues not the name change. If you see any C/vanners vs Moho’ers sniping check out the names. . . .Nuff said👍🏻

Absolutely no reason why there should be any conflict, we all choose which method to holiday on campsites. Be it tents, lodges, yurts, pods, trailer tents,  motorhomes or caravans.  Respect for others choice is what matters.  Let's not hear any people saying that their method is right.  It could cause divisions.

+2  and much of the 'not me guv' stuff is pure eyewash.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we're all in this together.

I think there have been some threads which give the appearance of that, cm. But fortunately the vast majority of posters are able to exchange views perfectly amicably and, of course, on site, there's absolutely no distinction between various methods of touring. The thread about the establishment of Aires is a good example of folk with varying views, in the main, debating maturely.   To quote a well worn phrase "we're all in this together"! smile

I agree with most of what has been said here. We had and enjoyed a motorhome for about 6 years and changed to a caravan purely for the advantage of having the car to explore and enjoy (more) the area we are/were in. We have never felt that we were treated differently because we had a motorhome, no more than we do not treat any body differently on site because they have a motorhome. I think its unjustified perception to think there is a divide/difference between the two.

There were a few people posted anti MH comments on here when the club changed its name but I don’t think they’ve been on the forum since and I bet they’d be as nice as pie if you met them on site.

Similarly, there are a few who give the impression of thinking MHs are the bees knees and won’t tolerate caravans. In truth, though, we all rub along side by side and enjoy our holidays.

It all sounds a bit petty to me, and if I came across it, I would treat it with the contempt it deserves.

That said, in 20 years of caravanning, I can't say that I ever experienced it.

Having now moved over to a motor home, I see it as a sideways move, not an upward one.

I was a caravanner for five years and have motorhomed for 23 years. the only 'them and us' feeling I've come across in 28 years of membership is on this forum. It has worsened on this forum since the name change but most of it remains good humoured. I suppose we have the choice of finding small differences divisive or an aid to mutual understanding. Caravanners and motorhomers have far too much in common so the latter suits me.

Anyone who even bothers to compare one with the other for the purposes of one-upmanship, is simply not worth even passing the time of day with!   I love the countryside and outdoors but not the bad weather and inconveniences that often go with camping so have always wanted a caravan to enable us to have a family holiday. Unfortunately, it never happened so 5 years ago I took the plunge and bought a motorhome as I am now in my 60s and it is simply easier for me to just get in and drive it from A to B.

Good post - we all make our own choices about how ano where we tour and in what mode of accommodation - if we didn't enjoy it we wouldn't do it would we? smile

I don't see a them and us situation

To be honest I've got so little in common with the majority of other caravanners and motorhomers that I don't think I'd notice a distinction between whether you have a motor or not

I don't see it as a downward step, so I don't know what makes you think that, especially if you have never had a MH.

Each has it's own positives, and negatives. The caravan has the advantage of you having your car with you, but is more hassle in terms of setting up on site, and lugging aquarolls, and wastemasters back and forth. With a MH you don't have the convenience of having the car with you, unless of course you tow one behind it, but then you might as well tow a caravan.

In terms of comfort, and facilities, there is no difference between a MH and a caravan.

I don't see going from a caravan to a MH, as a downward step, or vesa versa.

Having caravanned for 20 years, during which time we bought seven new caravans, and toured most all of Europe, I think I have a good understanding of the advantages, and disadvantages of caravanning.

Given that caravans and MH's share the same level of living comfort, and can easily be driven, or towed to wherever you want to go, it's a case of 'six of one, and a half dozen of the other'.

I'm sure that is not the case, but your comment does make you sound anti motor home.

Having read both caravan and motorhome forums over the years there are a few members of each discipline that don't understand the other mainly because they have no experience. Sometimes this shows in the way they post. On forums where both share the same space that is a lot less likely because even if we don't share the same type of LV we have many other things in common. Unfortunately the name change did throw up a few negatives but I wonder if that was the only way some people felt they could express their disappointment/anger by attacking those they see as being the cause of that change? There are probably more people on this forum who have had both caravan and motorhome so hopefully less reasons for differences.

Well we’ve never encountered any of that ,it doesn’t bother us what other people choose to camp in ,in our eyes we are all enjoying the same pastime no matter what unit we choose to do it in.I like to think that we all get along together coolsmile
