Might help if you described the alternative routes that you are considering

    Hi

One route is the M6, M5,A40. The other is through wales via the A roads, Dolgellau, Aberystwyth A487. The time difference is over an hour but we are worried that the shorter route through wales may not be suitable for a caravan.

    Thanks

I live in Queensferry 7 miles from Chester and I would always use the A roads from here to St Davids. I personally would not consider the motorway route. I have towed from this area to St Davids but more frequently to Aberaeron over a 35 year period with several different cars and caravans and never found it challenging.

I would have thought though that you might be using M53, A55, A483, A470 etc which is slightly different to my route but I know of no problem. Just stick to trunk roads

Many thanks EasyT. You have been very helpful. We have only been caravaning since 2016 and loving every minute of it. We just afraid of hitting a road that wasn’t suitable.
