Starter Battery becoming flat

Hello,   We collected our 20 year old motorhome Friday.  Complete newbies and working on becoming familiar and completing small fixes etc.   Sadly the starter battery keeps discharging all its power and even though we've recharged the mhome via mains it is still quite flat (reading 10.5 volts).  We have the internal battery selector on neutral when recharging, battery van charger switched on still the starter battery is not recharging fully.   We don't believe the battery needed replacing as no problems starting when we collected it.  This problem has only ocurred since we been working on the van.  Also the temp gauge goes to max when we start the van?  Any ideas please ... thank you

    Try getting the battery tested then you’ll know for sure.
