Off site walks
Hello Everyone,
Being a relative newcomer to the club I wondered if there are any keen walkers out there who can suggest top sites to stay with good off site walks for dogs? I’m in Hampshire, looking at anywhere in the 4-5hr journey bracket. We’re looking for beautiful countryside or coastal walks. I’m spending so much time looking at the online site but personal recommendations would be much appreciated🙂

I live on the edge of the Peak District which has some. Beautiful countryside and plenty of opportunities for walks.
C&MC site in the area Castleton, Chatsworth Park, Leek plus others and many CLs.
Just returned from Cornwall, there are some lovely coastal footpath walks. A must visit is TREWETHETT C&MC site.
I am sure others will come along with more suggestions.
Happy walking.

It will depend on what time of year you decide to visit to a certain extent. We have always enjoyed Devon and Cornwall coastal walks with our dogs, both are busy this time of year, but less so in June / September. We used Marazion Club Site down in Penwith Cornwall. Dartmoor is superb walking country, so long as you have a well behaved dog, good with stock, then Lydford or Exeter Racecourse might suit. North Norfolk has great coastal walking as well, but be aware of nesting birds in Spring. Same with moorland areas, lambing time in Spring.
Your best bet is to use OS maps of somewhere you fancy, then look for a site to suit. Club Sites are not always the best options. We love Bolton Abbey in Winter, less sheep, less humans, site is very rural, walks straight out onto Moors. With some dog restrictions on grouse moors.

Although we don't have a dog, we do a lot of walking when away in the MH and one of our favourites is Hawes. We've been there a number of times, also when we had a caravan. Stayed there for 8 nights once when we had the caravan, the car never moved off the pitch from the day we arrived until the day we left. We walked in every direction during those 8 days! Thoroughly enjoy it there. Shopping can all be done in Hawes itself, either as a separate trip on foot, or on the way back from a walk, as a number of walks come back into Hawes, and then back to the site.
Wharfedale is also a good site for walks, as is Bolton Abbey.

If it's club sites you want and beautiful countryside how about Cirencester Park or Moreton in Marsh, both ideal for Cotswold rambles direct from the site or a very short drive away and with large enclosed dog exercise areas on site.
For a non club site, right on the coast with breathtaking views you could try 3 Cliffs Bay on the Gower where you can walk straight down onto the beach (check it's dog friendly first though.)
But there are also many really good CLs in both those areas if you want something a bit quieter (and cheaper!)

The new club site at Bingham Grange near Bridport adjoins the Brit Way, there are some beautiful walks in this area, explore ancient Eggardon Hill, Pilsdon Pen and on the coast at West Bay you can pick up the coast path W &E easily.
In Cornwall have a look at the CL near Rame Head for some spectacular walks to Mount Edgcumbe etc., its right on the coastal path looking towards Plymouth Sound.
St David's, St Agnes, Trewethett are all adjacent to coastal paths. Too many to mention!

Tavistock - one of the smartest small towns in Devon - good shops, good pubs and good restaurants - and with access to the most picturesque side of Dartmoor for walking with or without a dog. Four top class campsites around the town - Harford Bridge, Woodovis Park, Higher Longford, and Langstone Manor, and smaller campsites too. Come on down.

Not far from Tavistock is the affiliated club site at Lydford. They could walk the Gorge or onto Dartmoor.

Two sites I can recommend is Invercoe caravan and camping site and the C&CC Glencoe site. ..Glencoe is a wonderful area for walkers and climbers and both those sites are ideally suited to take advantage of low or high level routes. So many fantastic hills within walking distance of those two sites.
