We are travelling to Sidmouth mid October and would like to take our three grandchildren who live there away for a few days in our motorhome. We would like to go somewhere within walking distance or easy bus /train trip to beach, shops, things to do as we do not want to move motorhome once set up.  Any suggestions welcome thank you.

Riverside Park at Plymouth - bus stop is close and there are plenty of things to see and do in Ocean City whatever the weather.

Are you looking for a full facility site or something more basic?

Supermarket, retail park, restaurants and McDonalds all nearby along with a riverside walk and cycle track, Plym Valley Railway, park & ride plus service route buses. Easy access from the A38.

    Good thinking, Euro 👍🏻

Another one for riverside. Not being biased being local or a Plymouth City Bus driver.

What about Hillhead at Brixham or looe club site, also at Looe and Polperro and on bus route Tregoad, Tencreek and Camping Carradon.

Would your grandchildren enjoy a riverside site like this one on the Dart? See HERE

We would prefer a full facility site and we don’t mind a bit of a walk to nearest village, beach etc., just do not want to be totally isolated. Thank you

Lots of recommendations for Riverside will check it out. Many thanks. We are maybe looking more for nearby villages/beaches than a city.

The problem with being near a village or beach is that it’s unlikely you’ll find much in the way of buses or trains but maybe somebody will come up with something,

Can I ask why you don’t want to take the MH off site? Is it large and likely to present problems on the roads of the SW?

Have you looked at somewhere like Haven in Perranporth, there are buses there going to Newquay, Truro etc.

We've stayed with kids 3 times in oakdown sidmouth. Would highly recommend, 5 star site playgrounds, donkey sanctuary near by, and cafe. Wonderful facilities and super staff...we'd go back any time.

If you are looking for somewhere in Cornwall, try Globe Vale, just outside Redruth.  Nice and central, good site and site staff, full serviced grass or hardstandings available, easy to get to Tescos, easy to get to Penrose Caravans at Scorrier if you need anything for the caravan, small bar and restaurant on site......
