"Locked" threads
I notice that the "Not inclusive" thread has been locked by Jill this morning. And yet within minutes a member has been able to add a post. Out of curiosity I tried but could not add a comment. It's not the first time I've seen this. So how is it possible that some members seem to be able to circumvent the locking of a post. And why, other than wanting to stick two metaphorical fingers up at the moderators?

I've reported this issue Moulesy as it's happened several times. Once a thread is locked no further comments should be possible but this isn't happening. We just don't know why; maybe it's a time lapse thing where, if somebody was typing as the thread was locked, it would still 'get through' but, in this instance I personally don't see that this is the case.
I could remove any following posts but it would still leave the post showing 'content has been removed' message.
Very frustrating.

It’s not time lapse, Jill, it’s another example of the foibles of this software. There are various ways around it but it’s hit and miss whether they work - another inconsistency.

There haven't been any further posts for a little while but, if anybody else posts, I'll be removing them.

I can assure 'moulesy' and 'Jill' that it's not a two finger thing from me, on my screen I have a 'Compose a reply' box and I write my reply. If to some that box is not apparent then as said, it is a foible of this software.
Possibility of what each of us see on screen could well be to do with me not having refreshed it and the clunky software letting it through, so Jills post and locked message would only appear if refreshed.

In my opinion moderators are a tad too hasty to lock threads.

That’s the basis of it, Metheven. I’ve used the reply box before without realising a thread has been closed. I’m certainly not clever enough to hack my way in.

Also to delete innocent posts such as one of mine that mentioned, in passing, air con which was apparently a topic that had bored people (not guilty).
As far as I know it may still be a proscribed topic? No idea. Yes I abhor needless censorship.

Being able to post into a locked thread appears at times to be down to how you actually get into the thread. Accessing via the date and time of the last post somehow made the thread active again, although this isn't always the case. I wonder if it is down to the device being used as well, as on iPad, I often come across supposedly locked threads that still show a compose a reply box.

That does sometimes happen but it does depend on how many posts need to be removed. If it's excessive then we are more than likely to close the thread. Sometimes that gives us the opportunity to remove posts without further ones being added and the thread can then be reopened when hopefully things have calmed down. However I would point out that the mods are volunteers and often their time online is limited because they are away themselves and sometimes without a reliable WiFi connection!!!
