Steam Cleaners - who uses in their van?
We're not a big fan of the carpets in caravans, and for our next one (Elddis Crusader) we are thinking of just having the hard floors which look attractive and substantial
We use a steam cleaner at home to clean our hard floors and were considering using it on our caravan floor - does anyone do this on a regular basis? Guess I could ask the manufacturer, but any feedback from the community would be appreciated

I’d suggest that using steam on a caravan floor which is made of bonded layers is probably a recipe for disaster.

We don't as we have kept the carpets down and do exactly as Steve does. As to using a steam cleaner I think it might depend which. If it was a high end Polti steam cleaner which produces a lot of hot but dry steam probably not because it could damage the veneer on the cupboard bases. However if it was a cheap Vax style one I can't see that it would do any harm. The amount of damp would be less that washing with mop or sponge and the heat I would think as being OK. We use one on our laminate floors at home with not ill effect. Most vans have a layer of lino that covers the entire floor and a lot is under beds and cupboards so in reality you wouldn't be cleaning probably 50% of it anyway.

I think using a steam cleaner is a bit OTT. We took the carpets out of our van when we got it - mainly because we have a dog and dogs, British weather (apart from at the moment!) and caravan carpets just don't mix well. We put down some cheap runners bought from one of the discount shops and they go in the washing machine now and again. As for the floor - just a vacuum and wipe over with the usual floor cleaner / detergent and it looks like new again.
