Do VS day vans without any facilities comply

VW day vans seem popular. Current site says no tents. Yet a VW day van has been accepted and what accommodation, yes a tent.

It's not about what the warden thinks as the van has been accepted  it rather what does the club think of the sidelinning of the no tents rule and accepting day vans without any facilities   of even pumped cold water.

    Hi, W&J.

As far as I know there is no rule that says a unit must have facilities or a water pump. Many legitimately converted vans don’t have these items. Let’s face it, if there was a rule saying you must have your own facilities, then the club probably wouldn’t build facility blocks.

Pup tents are, of course, allowed on pitches.

    Hope that helps.

yes from memory from a previous thread and/or magazine article there has to be a place to sleep on a 'bed'? or some form of converted 'seats' into bed, no mention of facilities or water.

In fact in one recent club magazine there was a review of such a VW motorhome which did not have a washroom//toilet.

    Always happy to help W&J

I've never really thought about the other "vans" on site as to wether they have facilities or not , if it's OK with the club ,then that's all there is to it

    +1

I do wonder why the OP posted with such a question? Did these vans detract or spoil their stay? Or is the interest purely academic?

    Over to you W&J?

    Club Site rules: https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/uk-sites/club-sites/club-site-rules/

See section 5a. Even on a site that is designated "no tents" this usually means there are no tent only spaces. It doesn't seem to indicate that a tent cannot be used as extra sleeping space as part of the awning pitch, provided the main unit, in this case a VW is also used for sleeping! There were lots of VW Day vans on Rowntree Park when we stayed, some with, some without tents of various descriptions. I wasn't being sad clocking all the variety of outfits on our stay, it's merely that we have a Vdub, and happily passed the time of day with follow owners. One or two were delighted to let us look around, as we did with ours, and there were some ingenious water storage and onboard toiletting arrangements, all perfectly acceptable to the Club.

Like you AD, we use sites over here that accept different outfits, including horse boxes, old ambulances, roof tents etc..........

Best conversion I have ever seen was a Pinzguaer camper. A real go anywhere tourer done out by a Jeep enthusiast. It would have complied with requirements of Club, had proper sleeping, cooking arrangements. But would have raised a few eyebrows! Bit like this:

are you saying that people who use tents or these vans are not as hygienic as other campers? and even if true (which I really doubt, just because you have a large outfit does that mean those people are cleaner) how does that affect your stay?

I had to look up ‘day van’ I’d never heard of it. Vdub, VW bus, Campervan but not day van. I was surprised to find this, pleasantly surprised too👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎-

Nice van and far more mod cons than caravans of yore when washrooms and even water pumps were unheard of. 🙂

I think the ‘tent’ that W&J mention must be the Awning🤔. A tent by another name maybe.

There were loads of VDubs at Rowntree Park as I said when we were there. I doubt a lot of folks have a clue at just how luxurious and desirable they are, or how much they cost. Serious money. A life style choice. We considered one, but decided we needed more room. We had a lovely time swopping nice places to stay with a couple of chaps from Belfast who were touring in theirs, complete with drive away awning. It was lovely.

I seem to recall an overjoyed chap with a quite unusual caravan who posted how glad he was that the Club had sent Wardens a list of outfits the Club were happy to see on sites. I can't find the post, but he did mention something else. Most of the moans came from others members not happy to see anything less than conventional vans or MHs on sites. I make no further comment.........

I don't actually mind what type of outfit people use. I am more interested in the people who are in them. If they are on a site with facilities I am sure they can keep themselves 'hygenic'. Even witbout full facilities there is always a water tap laughing

Of course "in the olden days" caravans all had a toilet tent.

I often see VW day vans with drive-away awnings many have electric hook-up capability too. Oh to be young again and be able to afford such an outfit.

Whilst we are on the subject of conjuring up obscure questions and answers, I wonder if that iconic CC Wanderer caravan would be allowed on a pitch today?wink

Probably yes, but would the towing " vehicle's " need to be kept on a 2m leash and not allowed to foul the pitch?

It always amuses me to see the sign NO TENTS..then when look around the site there are lots of tents, smoking tents, cooking tents, pup tents even awnings are a load of canvas and pegs it is about time they dropped the no tents and welcomed everybody.

I'm always curious to see what/how folks tour. Roof tents, sleeping cars whatever. In NZ most sites have camp kitchens with cookers kettles microwave,  fridge freezer etc with seating as well as BBQ, sometimes a charge for bbq, as well as showers and toilets meaning if you're happy to sleep in your chosen outfit everything else is catered for. Sometimes campsites have to be careful with locals who maybe homeless 😉

At the C&CC Sandringham site I saw a camping car flying a kiwi flag and had a chat. Their vehicle had started life in NZ been revamped and was one of 10 shipped over here to see what the market thought. They'd purchased theirs before learning it's history. Was a Renault Estate. Such a variety of outfits on C&CC sites.

    I do hope not!

And I make no apologies for being snobbish, but 'in general' every time we have caravanned on mixed sites, there will be a couple of tents of scrubbers spoiling it for everyone.

Kids running riot, parents getting drunk and f'ing and worse at the kids, loud music 'til the wee hours, kids up at 5 with the dawn light and left to wake everyone else up, Frisbees and footballs bouncing off the van walls, riding bikes across the pitch (between the car and van) even 'hide and seek' under the van!

Now I'm not saying that does not happen with caravans / motorhomes too, but the costs of the vehicles and the prices of the CC do help to keep the members standards just that little bit higher, not 6 up in an Aldi £69 special!sealed surprisedembarassedwink

Yes remember those days, being told to keep quiet, late night parties , late night music, camp fires  and adult fun...... then we entered the beige part of life, tranquil no camp fires ,no load music just radio four, walking a dog ,watching the tv, etc etc. Club sets are fast becoming gods waiting area, a gravel grave yard. So get the ball out kick it around turn up the music, open the wine ,make noise and wake the dead.
