Search for a CL
is it just me or is the search for a CL using a map none existent? The CL search just gives you a list of CLs in various areas and if you search for Club sites & tick the CL box on the map search you get the Club sites but sod all CLs

I gave up last week trying to search CLs online. Quickest method for us is using handbook and map, then check out details, reviews etc on line. Search using online map or by county/towns is utterly useless and long winded. I do take a look at new CLs online as they might not be in handbook yet.

Hi Mollysmummy
Im sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties searching for CL's.
When searching with the Map it will bring up CL's in a 20 mile radius of the location. You may see Gray Pins with numbers on them, this means there are a number of CL's in close proximity to one another. You would need to zoom in on the Map to see these.
Could I ask where about in the UK you were looking for so I can see if there is an issue?
Thanks
Maddie

I think most of us know the theory behind searching by map, four long winded clicks to actually get to the map and have it bring up CLs only as opposed to Club Sites. But then the map is so sensitive that you are quite a while expanding it, shifting it around to centre on area you want. One wrong move and whoosh.....I just found myself looking at Africa! (No sign of a CL there by the way) Search by map is probably my least favourite method, and therefore perhaps I need a bit more practice!
But scrolling down all the towns, finding a highlighted one was something of a retrograde step from the pre website update method, and you have to know an area reasonably well to know where in that area the town highlighted actually is located! often miles away from where you want to actually stay. But my geographical knowledge of some places has improved!

Hi Maddie
I know the theory, but as Take the Dog says, theory & practice are worlds apart. I was trying to look around Skipton area but the only way to get a map is via Club sites but even when you tick the CL box there are no CLs shown. It doesn't even show the CLs I already know of.
As Take the Dog says, even using the search section takes for ever & a bit.

Hi Molly. Take a look at this CL close to Skipton, we used it a couple of years ago, wouldn't hesitate to go back! Only thing not perfect is we had to walk dogs on long leads down quiet roads for that early morning, late night last walk. Having said that, roads were very quiet, CL is a stunner. If you ring and enquire, they might have a field free for dog walking, but we were off site all day, so it didn't bother us. Around 15 minutes easy, lovely drive back into Skipton. Hope this helps! By the way, if you want a good guide to a decent doggy CL, just ask Nellie!

when you've zoomed into a CL on the map and clicked it for details you cannot easily get back to see other CLs in the locality. Before the upgrade you could right click and bring up adjacent CLs. I'm afraid this gets awarded my backwards progress stamp of non approval.

I have never tried the 'Search by map', prefering to go by county.
I have just tried this system and it's right what MM says, there are no cl's on the map.
The page loads with show Club Sites ticked. Untick and then re-tick Show cl's just show club site locations.
Something else that doesn't work

Thanks for that Maddie, another nice one, bit further away!

It'd be rather impractical to email you to ask about CLs in any given area, it' be nice if the website was user friendly or even worked as intended.
Thanks for the heads up, but having looked at the CL's website I note they charge an extra £2 a night for twin axles ....

Just tried using the search by map facility, and after a little faffing about I've been able to get a map showing 41 CL and club sites with in 20 mls of Skipton, including 2 CLs at Skipton,1 at Ilkey, 1 at Hellifield and 1 at Long Preston, which are the nearest to the desired destination. There are definitely problems with it, in that one cannot specify requirements, eg EHU, Toilets, dogs allowed etc; and when one selects a site to view one cannot go back directly to the map to look at others but have to go through the whole process again. We tend to list those that are in the area then look them up in the site directory to see what facilities they have. It's quicker that way than to go to each individually on the web site.

Worked it out now but it is a bit long winded. I expected to see a UK map with dots for cl's.
Then as NTH says you can't go back to the push pin page, you have to start over again.
Instructions for the page would be good but I think I'll just use my proven method

Search by map is my least preferred method. If the scroll for towns only showed towns in the chosen county, that would be a vast improvement, but it doesn't, you have to go through the whole A-Z, trying to remember which town might be closest to area preferred! Bonkers, a real camel committee construction!

Can you not ''right click" and open the prospective CL in a new tab, leaving the map available?

If you untick club sites box and tick the cls box you then have to click the search icon which brings up all the cls on the map. Zoom in to see them 'separate' from the little icons with numbers in. Click on any cl to view brief details. Click on the name of the cl to view full details (right click if you want it to open in a new window). If you want to look at another cl simply click the x in the top right of the box to close it and click on another cl.
I actually think it works fine. Whether it shows all the cls I've no idea.0 -
No, it doesn't work like that unfortunately. CY. If only it would it would be a great improvement.
Will give your method a try, Nicola, thanks for the tip.

Nicola, when you select a CL, using your method, and choose to look at it for it's full facilities, price and exact location etc you then cannot go back to the map with the CLs listed but have to start all over again, which was the point I was making. IMO it's not very user friendly, to put it mildly.

Nellie, it works for me. Click on a red marker for any CL which then opens the details in a box, hover over the name of the CL (in green) at the top of the box, right click your mouse and select 'open link in new tab' and it opens in a new tab. Then click the x at the top right corner of the CL's box and do the same with as many others as you want to. Works every time for me.

How do you "right click" on an iPad?

Press and hold and a subsidiary menu comes up.

Got it!! I tend to left click by nature hence I loose the map . Thanks again.

Hi MM. How ya diddlin? 🤣 I use the website but I have to say that I have found the best sites( that suit me - non EHU) by spreading the map out on the table and doing research on the sites that look like they are in exquisite locations. I have found by this method my most beloved and beautiful site. I can’t tell you where or I’d have to kill you. 🤣🤣

Hi Merve
You mean you dont use my OFF-Grid (non-ehu) CL MAP interactive map! Click Here
