Seasonal pitches
seasonal pitches seem to gaining popularity my personal position is they should play no part In touring club, now with the increase in motor home ownership will seasonal pitches become even more popular with motorhome users who could swap their pitches with other motorhomes user's a bit like time share, just wondered do you have to stay on the pitch all the time or can you move about has well and keep the pitch has a sort of back stop for when might need it.

You can take your van off pitch for a while but there’s a chance you may be allocated a different pitch when you return - warden’s discretion.

Taken from a previous thread on this subject the answers are here, I think the concerns in the OP are covered.
I guess a small percentage of seasonal pitches on sites with spare capacity and rarely full for the season or part season may be a good thing. Many fellow members who are past our towing days may be able to extend the enjoyment of our pastime for a few more years with no detrimental effect on us tourers and provide some additional income for the site. May be these long term older members should be given priority on the few Seasonal pitches that exist.

Are the numbers allocated increasing? I have no idea. Certainly they are popular, as they are allocated by ballot. The popularity is almost certainly a result of the cost and convenience. For the first time we have gone for one. They have been available for our chosen site before, but this year the available dates were suitable.
At a cost of £5 / £6 a night if you stayed all possible they are certainly good value. Personally, from the touring club point of view, I can't see any difference between a seasonal and someone booking all the individual days they want at the site, up to a year in advance.
Apart from the fact they would have to move the van on and off the pitch, the cost might not be hugely greater, depending on the time of year and the occupancy level of the seasonal. I gestimate we will end up paying about the minimum winter charge, as an average for our likely occupancy.

They have always been popular and although I have no idea if they are gaining in popularity, or even how to tell that they are.
If you look at which sites have them they are not the ones that have heavy demand.
They are already popular with motor homes I notice

I wondered if I was missing something as, to me, the whole point of a MH is to tour. I wonder if they are mainly left on the seasonal pitch or perhaps turn up every weekend.
We had an autumn seasonal one year when we had a caravan. Family circumstances prevented us going away for more than a few days at a time or going very far from home. It worked well at that point in our lives.

We got chatty with one or two full timers who had big MHs and had seasonal pitches at Exeter Racecourse. One chap was so fed up of his big MH having mechanical issues, he eventually swopped for a big caravan. They already had the big car to tow it, so it just made sense to them.

I've previously seen motorhomes left on seasonal pitches down in Cornwall, much the same as caravanners do and the owners can take a car to the site to get out more easily. Don't think it matters too much, the club will cut back when and if they can make more money from daily bookings. I wouldn't leave a motorhome for too long but some obviously do. There used to be a huge one at St Agnes (just a short season there) but I think the owner swapped for an equally huge caravan.
