Industrialisation of Clumber Park
Are members aware that there are plans to drill gas wells at Clumber Park and that the National Trust is facing court action to force them to allow it. What do members feel about the possible spoiling of this area bearing in mind that the club has a site in the park.

Personally I think I would have to see more details before commenting further.

We need the energy, it is as simple as that. We are either going to beholden to other countries, or developed our own. Cars might become increasingly electric, but that power needs to be generated and renewables are just not going to be sufficient.
At the moment I think the proposals are for seismic surveys. Which depending how they are carried out will involve drilling a series of shallow shot / geophone holes. Which is not particularly disruptive, in fact you probably would not know it was happening. If large scale drilling / fracking is involved, those wells can be deviated. So potentially less sensitive sites can be selected. Personally I think it is NIMBY ism on the part of the NT. By all means campaign for proper controls, but not for an outright ban.
