hi all,

my 2008 ace jubilee needs it’s 80ah battery replacing. It’s still ok. Don’t think it’s ever been changed but I am getting a powrtouch evolution mover fitted in a few weeks. Some sites suggest an 85ah is enough but the power touch site says 110ah will be best. If my existing battery was new I may be tempted to try but I think it may be as much as 10 years old.( I bought it 3 years ago and haven’t touched it).

Min short I need a 110ah, zero maintenance other than plugging in at home for occasional maintenance charging. Don’t want to be opening up and messing with electrolytes etc. Budget £100 ish

not had to deal with replacing a leisure battery before so would like to purchase based on the advice of you all

thanks

At 10 years old it’s done incredibly well but a mover will certainly test it. 110 Ahr is recommended as the current drain from the mover is substantial. There are other threads that recommend particular makes and much will depend on what you can get locally but go for a sealed, zero maintenance battery, keep it off EHU when not needed and give a top-up charge with a decent leisure battery charger if it is discharged off-grid or every 1-2 months in storage.

I meant to add that if you are buying a larger battery make sure that you check the size and access to the terminals carefully so that it fits the storage locker. Keep the old one because if you are in storage you may want to swap to recharge one.

I’m surprised that no one has suggested you get your battery tested. I believe Halfords will load test it for you, but I’m sure others may do the same.

if your battery performs well under a load test then there is absolutely no point in replacing it.

What does the c20/c100 test mean? I have to admit I don’t really understand the technical issues of the leisure batteries?

Also the big issue I am seeing is the size of the battery themselves. I have a standard thetford battery box and need something no larger than 345mm length x 175mm depth x max225mm height(allowing 15-20 mm for connectors)

anyone have any suggestions as from looking at the NCC website lists for class B batteries I am struggling to find a unit in 110ah capacity that will fit??

Well, the pros and cons of battery testing are not my forte. I’m just going by Powertouch’s recommended way to ensure the battery is capable of performing under high load conditions. As a dunce on the subject I accept the test you recomend may be more appropriate (although I fail to see how the drop test you recommend could reveal a battery which breaks down under highload like a motor mover). So, is it sensible to get it tested?

Just bought a recommended 'Banner' battery 110AH. Much better performance than my original even when new. Got it from Alpha batteries on line. Ordered one day at 15:00 and was delivered free next morning at 11:00. Didn't bother to pay for the express delivery as time was not an issue. If you haven't looked at batteries for a while, make sure the battery dimensions will fit your tray and that the terminal type and configuration will suit your van. I was lucky enough to be able to save some height and had enough spare lead in the box to reconfigure mine. Works well with motor mover.

When I was in the process of changing my battery a few months ago - and asked Powrtouch for their advice, (since I have an AWD motor mover fitted), the guy I spoke to 'hinted' that I should stay away from Banner because they had experienced a few problems of late when they were used with their motor movers.

Found that battery megastore at tewkesbury offers good service and very competitive prices on ebay as well as thier own website. A mate of mine collected from their depot so they are for real, they also gave him additional discount as there was no postage incurred.
