MTPLM confusion

Hi

I just wonder if anyone can help clarify details concerning MTPLM. (Max overall weight)

The vehicle is a Bessacarr E442. Swift quote a figure of 3500 kg in the brochure however under the bonnet on the stamped plate the MTPLM has a figure of 3650 kg.

What I would like to know is legally, if stopped and weighed,  what is my max permissible figure?

Loaded up for a long trip I reckon we are at least 3520 kg!

    I’m no expert but my assumption is that the weight plated on the base vehicle is its max when fitted with a commercial vehicle back whereas Swift have built the conversion to allow for a max of 3500 for obvious reasons. Is there a GVW shown on your V5?

    Not sure that I would worry about 20 kg and I guess you could get an upgrade but once you go over the 3500kg limit there are many restrictions in Europe and license complications for us older folks. A weighbridge visit seems in order.

    The standard Fiat chassis used by many motorhomer manufacturers is the 3650kg. Manufacturers often limit this to 3500kgs to keep their motorhomes drivable on a car licence. It should be easy to shed enough weight to get under the 3500kg limit.

    Yes, check your V5C for Revenue Weight [on page two, Y] and Max permissible mass [F.1 on the same page]. These figures should be the same.

    Don't be tempted to knowingly load over your vehicles limit or axle limits. The Authorities have discretion on how to deal with 'innocent overloading' but they are not gullible.

    Hi all

    Thanks for the replies!

    The V5 gives a Revenue weight of 3500kg with the max permissible mass being the same.

    So I guess that is my answer.

    My licence covers me for C1 which is up to 7500 Kg so no problem there.

    I think a visit to a weighbridge once loaded would be a good idea.
