Hello! On honeymoon, from the Northern Isles!
Hi there,
We live in Orkney (Trevor is from Shetland), are relatively new to caravanning (done just 18 days so far) and have just joined the Club.
For our wedding we asked for donations instead of presents, and we are setting off in our caravan around the UK for a couple of months until the money runs out! It was suggested we joined up so that we had more scope for booking at short notice in the holidays... and hopefully it will work out a little cheaper too.
We have so far booked the first three sites, they look lovely, and getting quite excited about setting off in two weeks!
We are hoping to cover Scotland, England and Wales.
Cheers,
Fiona and Trevor

Welcome to CT and the club, Fiona and Trevor.
Ask away if you need any info.
Last year we toured Orkney and Shetland - beautiful islands. This year we 'did' the Western Isles and only returned home yesterday.

Scotland, England & Wales, hmmmmm , hope your marriage holds up Fiona & Trevor, 'cos you've got a couple of decades worth exploring there. And thats without heading to your near neighbours over Norway, Denmark etc
Seriously though, Might I wish you all the very best for both your choices { Him/Her AND The 'VAN }

Congratulations, what a great idea for wedding gifts! Have a wonderful journey, in both senses.

Welcome to the Club. Hope your caravanning is smooth. You do know awnings are called "divorce in a bag", don't you?
But seriously, congratulations - what a lovely honeymoon. Enjoy the wonderful adventure you are about to have.

What a fantastic idea Fiona and Trevor. I couldnt quite work out whether you had 'tied the knot' yet - I might be premature in offering my congratuations to you - but my good wishes to you both. As a colleague of mine used to say to folk who were getting married.... 'I hope you will be as happy as I thought I was going to be....😀😀😀😀. Seriously, congratulations to you both.
We are out in our caravan at the opposite end of the country - Cornwall.
Do keep us up to date on how you are getting on, and feel free to ask any questions in the appropriate section.
All the best
David

I'm so glad we've decided not to bother with the awning!!! Haha, seriously most of the time we'll be out exploring so we've put the hiking gear in the awning cupboard.....

Hi, thank you, the wedding was last July (22 years to the day since the day we met!) but I wanted to wait until I'd finished my music degree before we went on our big trip so I could relax properly.
We are really wanting to visit Cornwall but perhaps not in the School Holidays.... I think we'll come down at a quieter time!
Can't wait to set off now, it's very exciting....
Cheers
Fiona

From one musician to another...... 👍👍👍👍👍...... except it's been more than 40 years since I did mine.... in those days we had to manage without Sibelius and sequencing software, and we hadn't heard of MIDI etc.. 😀 I learnt all that as I went on... 😉

Yes, definitely avoid Cornwall in the school holidays! September is often nice down here.

Another musician joining in with extra congratulations! ... one who still hasn't got Sibelius, though I do rely on MuseScore now, but have stacks of handwritten MS still lurking in cupboards & shelves
Fiona, do you have any instruments travelling with you?

Ah, Sibelius! When I auditioned for the degree (after many years as a musician and music teacher first!!) they were astonished I'd published a book of my music, all hand written with a fountain pen... I've been forced into Sibelius since then and yes it's handy but I still like to be able to hand write!
We are indeed taking our fiddles, my husband is one of Shetland's best fiddlers and I'm sure we'll be having a few tunes along the way (at sensible times, obviously!)
We played ourselves down the aisle at the wedding.... may have made history! Our guests' faces were a picture!

After trying to add our profile pic I now realise there's a problem with the system.... meantime, this was the photo I was attempting to use! If you see us around over the summer feel free to request a tune!

Congratulations Fiona and Trevor and may you have a wonderful time on your travels. I think one of the hardest things is deciding where to go! Just be careful of weekends - they can be very booked up these days. Gone are the times you could just rock up at almost any campsite!
I am hoping to return to visit more of the Orkney Islands - my last trip was cut a bit short because I managed to get the caravan on the boat to Shetland - much as I loved that - it may be a trip I won't repeat - just too far!

Thanks!
Shetland is far AND expensive! They've get rid of the main campsite and built a new school in its place too
We've booked everything, despite not really wanting to be so organised, as I'm aware it gets busy.
We are visiting Kinlochewe, Bunree, Hawes, Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, 2 places in the Cotswolds and 2 in the Lake District before finishing off in the Cairngorms, my favourite place in the world.
Saving Devon and Cornwall for a less busy time of year....

Superb! That would have been a wedding worth hearing! Can't quite match that, though I did play my replica Brueghel 16th Century bagpipes - at my daughter's request - as I accompanied her down the aisle for her wedding
And yes, writing it out by hand is somehow more direct than thinking it into a screen, isn't it?!
Have a great trip, and may you meet many good musicians for a few sessions on your way round.0
