After the re-brand to CMC

Ah but can any of you Euro fans actually say " I like travelling to different countries and drinking in another culture" in a a European language? Real converts (like our next door neighbour) learn the language and buy a house amongst the local community, in this instance a tiny Spanish fishing village......you're still only tourists, enjoying yourself, but still tourists. My sister actually lived on Crete for a good while, in all seasons. Teaching English to Cretan children.
You really are...........just tourists!

But David, you appear to think that touring abroad is only possible or desirable if towing a huge white box behind you! There are other ways of enjoying life around the world you know and without repeatedly revisiting the same places, attractive though they might be.

Anybody touring a foreign country is a tourist who enjoys meeting and chatting to people who have a different culture to themselves. The culture is absorbed in small quantities. Staying on campsites abroad is one of the best ways to hone our language skills and enjoy meeting people in a relaxed and informal way.
I know this may sound odd to those who never go outside their comfort zone. But touring abroad Is exciting, rewarding and enjoyable. And unlike the UK there is never any need to visit the same place twice.

I think we all know that K, that's why it's a tad amusing that a few seem to think we don't. It's the smugness that irritates. It is a choice we all possess...........
Pro arbitrio suus ad impugnandos alios parvuli!

Obviously I agree with that, micky. For me the most exciting places to tour are those far-flung spots which one is only likely to visit once in a lifetime. Not much chance of towing to those although I did have a hankering after hiring one of those big LVs when we were in the Rockies a few years back. But of course it matters not if one is caravanning, staying in plush hotels or cruising. The really exciting things are the places you see, the people you meet and the experiences that last you a lifetime and are not likely to be repeated.

Yep, life is too short to limit one's experiences! We will 'caravan' at home or abroad and enjoy both but those opportunities which become available via a different travel 'mode' are equally if not more valued. We just keep our horizons open and enjoy all whilst we can.

or even booking the same place, attractive as that might be?

We are marking time, waiting for the big payday when we get our lump sums! The joys of only being youngsters!

yes +1, agree.
I only meant that to a certain poster following on from M's post, who criticises 'us' doing that over here but does that a lot on his tours over there

because it either gets a reaction from us, or maybe he enjoys getting people to be uncomfortable?
Some people are like that, can't bear to see others happy?
1 -
Not sure why you're adopting that attitude, David. Both of us enjoy caravanning and both of use enjoy jetting off to far-flung places. I don't believe I've ever "denigrated" your choice of destination - just pointed out that, personally we enjoy visiting different places world wide rather than returning to the same place several times. That suits you and that's fine but please stop denigrating folk who choose to do their caravanning in the UK.
BTW it wasn't me who said that one of the joys of touring overseas was that "there is never any need to visit the same place twice", just look back at the previous page!

M has not denigrated your choice at all, and pot kettle black springs to mind there Dave.
In your own words (so you can't be offended can you) have a good long at your own posts to see what you have written about how over there is so much better than what we choose to do over here!

yes please David, a big +1 from me too!

“As you take such a close personal intestinal” there you go M, AD has just added to your CV, a Gastroenterologist now too😂😂(no offence intended AD👍🏻)

The denigration of people who caravan in continental Europe is divisive and unnecessary. The CMC encourage continental touring and I support those who tour on the Continent as well as in the UK. There will be people who cannot tour abroad, for various reasons, and that's fine. -- But IMO they should accept that there are many others who enjoy the experience and allow them to post without continual adverse criticism.

Does that include not denigrating folk who choose to tour in the UK by suggesting that they are in any way less brave, unwilling to step out of some mythical "comfort zone" or less open minded, K?
It is each individual's choice to tour as they wish and it's about time this petty point scoring and "denigration" came to an end, I'm sure you'd agree.

Choice my dear K, choice. A variety of reasons for & against touring here or there. . . .Nothing more nothing less. Happy to help👍🏻😊

The denigration of people who caravan in the British Isles is divisive and unnecessary. The CMC encourage British touring and I support those who tour in Britain as well as on the Continent. There will be people who cannot tour in Britain, for various reasons, and that's fine. -- But IMO they should accept that there are many others who enjoy the experience and allow them to post without continual adverse criticism.

It's like talking to a brick wall. Closed minds, my way is the only way. You shall take a white box overseas, or life isn't worth living, at least from a holidaying point of view.
I am sure that touring overseas is very enjoyable, certainly as enjoyable as touring in Britain. In some ways possibly nicer, in others not so nice. It's like those of us who tour in Winter, in snow and ice. We do it because it's what we enjoy. But we are not desperate to tell all and sundry that it's what they should do. Nor call someone a coward for not trying it. That would be silly and childish, because as adults, we know folks make their own choices for a lot of reasons.

I think you are missing the point to a certain extent David. I personally make no assumptions why folks choose to travel where they do or how they do. It's a personal thing, and as such individuals make the choices that are right for them. Touring isn't second class, or indeed any class to me, been doing it in one form or another for a very long time. We will happily take our outfit overseas when circumstances allow us to do so. As it stands at the moment, with a couple of dogs in our travelling unit, taking them abroad to somewhere hot just isn't a choice for us, it's been hard enough these last three weeks coping with their comfort in 30.c temperatures. Asking how dogs abroad survive isn't the answer either, it's a choice we have no intention of trying out.
I am also still caring extensively for my last surviving parent, having not had a proper holiday of more than a week for six years. And then there's my OH, three huge operations for cancer, and a heart attack all in the last 18 months, and losing my Dad while all this was going on. Choosing somewhere to have a break has involved not much more than how quickly can I get home in an emergency for the last six years, and I know there are others out there doing exactly the same. As such, taunts about being frightened to venture further, having no imagination beyond the UK are not only meaningless, they hurt. Of course I have been abroad, of course I want to have longer periods away, of course I want to go back to places I love, and discover new ones. At the moment, I can't. I don't expect anyone to know about my problems having a decent break, but subjecting others to taunts of being frightened, having no imagination etc.... are a bit like playground bullying of a child who is different. It's not nice, it says a great deal more about those doing the bullying, and it comes across as smug and uncaring. These are not observations levelled at you personally by the way, merely a view of how all the speculation and assumption from some posters is way off the mark. I sincerely hope that all of us who tour can do so for a very long time in whatever, and wherever we choose.
