Toilet Door Lock Jammed
Hi everyone. The top lock catch on my inside of my exterior toilet door (the foot square one) has jammed. I can lock and unlock the door (by turning the key), but I can't get the top catch to release from the hole it clicks into and open. I've tried pulling on it and wiggling the key but to no avail.
It feels like it releases but it wont pull out. My other similar locks sound like a spring is being compressed and decompressed when you press them, but not that one. Maybe the spring has gone or fallen out of position.
The lower one is working fine.

Have you tried keeping the button pressed as you try and open the door?
Also (and I have done this so no offense) are you sure you have got the key in the right lock/unlock place?

When faced with a jammed/ sticking lock for an external caravan hatch, you can resolve the problem as follows;
Use your Stanly knife, with a sharp blade, to cut down, through the hinge pins, by inserting it into the erotically gaps in the hinge segments. With the hinge effectively removed, you can easily remove the hatch and endeavour to rectify the lock fault.
When it comes to replacing the hatch you’ll need to make replacement hinge pins. Stiff wire will work satisfactorily. In the longer term, brush cutter line is obtainable in a similar thickness to the original nylon pins. I asked for, and was given a 12” sample, which was more than enough to create a perfect repair.

The top lock is functioning fine. The latch appears to be stuck fast in the aperture into which it slides when locked. I have also pulled the bottom corner out and tried sliding an 1" wide steel rule up the side and knocking the latch out, but it won't budge. I have a similar ruler which is only 12" long which I will try in a minute. It is short and stiff enough to hit with an hammer, if necessary breaking the latch. At least then I only need to get a new latch from an accessory shop.

Thanks jennyc. Done that (just cut through top hinge) and lock sorted. Something had moved inside and jammed. Took it apart and reassembled it and jobs a good one. Used some heavy duty mains copper single strand wire to fix it.
Great advice! Hope someone finds this fix useful in the future.
