Motorhomes rule the hardstanding pitches
This is just an observation when I was at Hillhead in the last 2 weeks most of the hardstanding pitches that were occupied were motorhomes without an awning. the caravaners with awnings had to go on grass. Millionaire's row only had 1 caravan and awning all the rest were motorhomes without an awning. What's everybody's view on this, should the wardens insist that motorhomes without awnings should not go on hardstanding's.

As this topic has been done to death and, until the Club change the rules, there is little point in another discussion going round in circles yet again.

I don't have the time when out on holiday to notice such trivia to be honest.........
The Club has a first come, first choice policy, suits us, we carry what we need to cope with either surface. We choose awning pitches because it gets us that teensy weensy bit further away from other campers............

No, the rules are clear. Except for circumstances such as disabled access, or having to manage a particularly long vehicle, you are free to choose from what pitches ( of the type booked) are available.
We have a caravan, with a role out awning and don't always deploy it, particularly if windy. However, it gives us the option of having the car on that side, or space to BBQ and sit out.
If we were forced to take a smaller pitch, or go onto grass, when awning hardstandings were available, we would be looking elsewhere.

yes, as Steve says when you arrive on site will 'decide' what type of pitch is left, the caravans didn't have to go on grass but that may be the only pitches left.
Some do like grass but on the sites I've been on with HS and grass pitches the grass pitches usually go last.
Likewise we always book an awning pitch as it gives greater flexibility, put awning up or not if can't be bothered, space for the car, chairs... We also don't go to sites where there is a high risk of getting a grass pitch, SP is our favourite anyway.

Hard-standings and grass are the same price are they not ? I will therefore choose whichever pitch suits us best from those available when we arrive, taking into account surface type / sun / shade / view / slope etc.. We usually book an awning pitch as it gives us more space and room to put the canopy out should we choose to. I would consider, in summer, having a grass pitch if it were rock hard, and if were say £5 cheaper per night but it isn't. I am equally happy going onto grass if required, but at the sites risk, and in the past we have had our ramps sink around six inches into the grass which was due to the softness of the ground. Bear in mind also, that if a MH gets stuck on soft grass, the wardens little grass cutter will probably do little to get it back on to tarmac even if they were allowed to, which they are not as I understand.
