Littlehampton Site
Anyone used this site recently?
We have just booked 4 nights there in May so I thought I would read the reviews. I must admit I'm having second thoughts now having read reviews going back to last Autumn and picking up on a common complaint about how it's being used as a base for white van man and some security concerns. to name a couple.
Can anyone share what they have experienced, good or bad.
Thanks in advance.

yes it's not the usual club site reviews and one very distressing one on page 2, but these ones you refer to are from last year? The recent ones are generally OK to good. I wonder why this site gets such reviews? I'll be interested to see the replies from people who go there?

We enjoyed our stay at the Littlehampton site in early July 2016. We had no problem with any other members on-site and did not see a large number of white vans. Maybe it's changed. The site facilities were very good and its only a short walk to the nearest shop and only another few minutes walk to Morrison's supermarket.
The biggest problem for us was the close proximity to a very busy railway crossing between the site and town which seemed to often be closed leading to severe congestion at times.

We have stayed at Littlehampton and thought it was a lovely site.
I thought the CMC rules said no commercial vehicles? Is it worth speaking to HQ or site direct to see if these reviews are true accounts?
Have you also tried looking at reviews on UK Campsite, if they are the same I would consider raising it with the club
Good luck and I hope you have a good trip it is a lovely area

We were there last July and booked a hardstanding pitch. Big mistake as we were put down the last picth of a dead end alley which felt very claustrophobic and was so hard packed that I couldn't get a single awning peg in. We moved to a grass pitch the next day which was much better.
No sign of any commercials when we were there.
Irrespective of the site, it's not an area we'd visit again.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I have now cancelled the booking. The main reason having viewed the site on google maps. Looks a bit too built up for our liking and what's with the Static homes on the site?
We have since secured a pitch at a CL at Beachy Head (Black Robin Farm) But thank you all for your input

I think the static area is a hangover from when the site was in private hands. It is separate from the CMC site but I seem to recall it shares access with the Club site on one side to the exit. When this thread originally appeared I wondered if the issue was about the comings and goings to an from the static area. We stayed some years ago and didn't think it was a particular problem.

We are booked to stay at Littlehampton this weekend. We had stayed a couple of years ago with our 2 kids and it was fine. I've read this thread and reviews as and a bit nervous now- seems like standards at site might have s lipped- reviews in May this year mention loud music till midnight, blocked unclean toilets....
Has anyone stayed recently?
Also checked out reviews of nearby site Rowan park but it doesn't have a play ground. We are only going for 2 days - so the kids could cope without one. Can anyone comment if this site is better option given reviews of littlehampton.
Thanks for replies.

Have you considered Normanhurst Court near Hastings , a bit further along the coast but a nice family site,

Having read this thread, we were apprehensive but we went anyway. We were only there one night a couple of weeks ago and found it to be of the usual club standard with no problems at all on site. The only white vans were cvans and MHs and the only noise was some traffic noise but it wasn’t intrusive. We’d stay there again.

We are booked to go to Littlehampton this weekend. Ive read the MAY reviews and there are worrying reports of statics with loud music playing till midnight and blocked unusable toilets. We used this site 2 years ago and loved it, have we made a mistake booking again? we are going with 2 children who will need their sleep.
Has anyone been to Littlehampton recently?

sorry above reply was duplicate.
thanks for response Tinwheeler- its not a peak season weekend so hopefully quiet. I will update the thread here with a honest view. we have kids and a dog but all well behaved.... (before any negative comments are made).
We have been to battle but preferred Littlehampton before. Battle has some very dark corners and the hard standing no awning pitches are tiny. On the plus side battle has one of the best tea shops I have ever been to for cake and cheese on toast- the bluebell tea rooms (I think) I still dream of their scones!

I was wary but it was a pleasant experience. People were in good spirits as it was the night before the Royal wedding.
Have a good time, HC.

Littlehampton has one of the best chish & fip shops, Fred's http://www.fredsfishandchips.co.uk
Well worth a visit. We often pop down for tea on a Sunday, it's that good.
The amusement arcade on the seafront is good entertainment, give the kids £1 in tuppences and see how long they play the twopenny waterfall machines for. Our record is 3 hours.
Lots to keep the kids entertained on the beach, crabbing or just walking the promenade. Enjoy
We used a serviced pitch on our last visit.

We went to Littlehampton for weekend 8,9,10 June. Had lovely time. Picking up from negative points in reviews of the site in 2017 and 2018- there were no commercial vehicles, no loud music playing to midnight and no issues with facilities cleanliness. The toilets were spotless and the site was full. We were concerned as we loved the site but had been in 2016 then the negative reviews popped up. But nothing to worry about the 2 kids and dog had a great time. While we were there I didn't see anyone breaking any CMHC rules- I know that is also a big concern for people using this forum especially when kids and dogs involved... so you will be pleased to know nothing to worry about on that front either. I will also post a review.

Hi
So doesn't that sort of say to take reviews with a pinch of salt?

I guess aspects of reviews can often only represent an opinion, formed by a snapshot of a moment in time and not always reflective of that whole picture or the site itself. Very often our experience is vastly different from some reviews we have read prior to arrival. Nowadays we try to be open minded and more aware of those issues which are really not attributable to the everyday site and then form our thoughts accordingly. Doesn't mean a very few rather thoughtless fellow members disappoint us mind, just that I can't blame the sites. Unfortunately such folk walk amongst us everywhere in our lives. As for white vans, if the behaviour of the occupants on site is exemplorary then what is the problem.

Quite agree ,reviews are all down the the "experiance" of the reviewer at the time, i do not think any leisure facility in this country (or dare i say over there)can say that at times they have not had"problems" with visitors or the facilities that have caused a few negative ( if bothered) reviews and normally ,with negative reviews,it is the first any of the staff at the said leisure facility has been made aware that some one has had a perceived problem

This was my original thought. I always make a point of reading reviews of where were going and as you say, ignore the odd one or two when the rest are generally good. In the case of Littlehampton it looks like there was a problem but it has now been resolved.
For us a good thing came out of not deciding to visit though as it lead to staying at our first CL which has opened our eyes to a whole new range of sites we can choose from.

"As for white vans, if the behaviour of the occupants on site is exemplorary then what is the problem."
Generally I agree with you, the problems start with folk going off to work early in the morning or returning late at night, aren't the club sites intended to be recreational facilities ?. that's how the sites are portrayed. Maybe in the case of white van man needing somewhere to stay over whilst working away the club could allocate less sought after pitches for these members/customers.

So what are we saying? I would often commute to work from sites and return in the afternoon to enjoy that recreational time with my family. Absolutely loved it and made workdays almost feel like holidays. Is it so different for the smartly dressed office worker in a nice car? Members are members!
Now retired so what about me leaving early in the morning for a day out and returning in my motorhome in the evening?

Lets just say I go to a club site because it's supposed to be a recreational / leisure facility Moving MH's are part of that. Van's with ladders on the roof or alike are not.
