Tyres - Beware!
We all know that caravan tyres have a lifespan of about five years and I must confess that I haven't paid that much attention to the tyres on our three and a half year old Bailey Barcelona, thinking that the end of next year might be the time I start thinking about changing them. The van is in use every month, so doesn't sit on the drive, unused, for months at a time and because I have TPMS fitted, I tend to rely on that for an indication of pressure, rather than regularly checking them. (I won't make that mistake again!). However, yesterday - before a 400 mile trip down to Devon tomorrow, I decided to check the pressures and the photos show what I found on just one of the tyres. The other three were fine. According to the date stamp, all the tyres were manufactured in October 2014 - which fits in with when the van was built - although, interestingly, the faulty tyre is three weeks older than the other three, so obviously a different batch. I shudder to think what could have happened after a protracted spell of motorway driving. Fortunately, my local garage has come to the rescue and has managed to source a replacement tyre at short notice which, hopefully, will be fitted today. Just a message to everyone - regardless of age of your tyres - inspect them carefully - regularly!

Yes we see it regularly at our tyre depot. We try to advise people to change at 5/6 yrs but alas it usually gets ignored and they think that we are not giving them good advice but are trying to push tyres onto them which is definitely not the case .Ive seen the damage a blown out tyre can cause and as well as the safety side of it it can be extremely costly.Glad to see that you have changed them.
