Encouraging nature on your doorstep

Here at the Club, we love nothing more than nature and wildlife. Our Pitch in for Nature project is all about creating homely environments for different types of nature and wildlife on site. Our ‘biodiversity champion’ Site Staff leave areas of unmown grass or plant certain flowers to encourage nature to flourish. Do you do any 'little acts of wildness' to encourage nature on your doorstep?

    We had do quite a bit as we bought our home with an empty garden, the previous owner had chopped everything down. Even though we're in the countryside our bit was empty. So we planted lots of trees and shrubs and now we have a good wild life corridor and plenty of habitat for all sorts of creatures. This year we've left a big area of nettles and "weeds" and I'm happy to see daisies on the lawn, lots of insects like them too.

    As on the "what have you seen" thread we now share our garden with other members of the planet....

    We have lots of wildlife in our established city garden 😃.

    Our pond has frogs, froglet's too at present, crested and common newts and we think a toad this year 😃. The garden is alive with dragon and damsel flies during the summer.

    We have 25 starlings, at once, including their babies feeding regularly at present. Blue, great and long tailed tits, sparrows, Robins, song thrush, blackbirds, dunnock, gold and green finches as well as a visiting sparrowhawk 😔 but that has to live and feed it's babies too, crow and magpie - I hope I've included all the varieties. All our nests are now empty it is quiet without the cheeping now as you walk down the garden. Various butterflies and lots, for these days,  of bees.

    We have 'rescued' a hedgehog last November - Arbuthnott which was returned to us after hibernation and getting to the proper weight who we feed and water. In fact we did have at least 2, different ones, judging by the calling cards left 😉,but we haven't had any calling cards for last few days 😲.

    We have a couple of foxes which visit too.

    Luckily no badger, deer or moles and their resulting damage !
