Can anyone enlighten me on the provision of grocery shops in the village of Castleton. I know the nearest supermarket is 8 miles away but wondering if there is a "local" small Spar or similar.

There's a village stores which sell the basics and many other things. Opposite there is a bakery, which sell lovely bread and cakes. In Hope a mile away, there is a Spar, a small farm shop/butcher, which is very good and a greengrocers and a Deli.

There are also lots of options for eating out.

Turn left out of spite and Spar is one mile.

Also next left past the spar and there is a farm shop within 100 yds

The Lose Hill lamb is excellent. Also occasionally they have mutton, which I had never had before, it made a very nice stew.😋
