Where is everyone?
We go away during school holidays as have a child of school age: During Easter school holidays; we stayed at New Forest CC site and last week (half term) stayed at Hurn Lane CC site. What was noticeable on both stays was how quiet the sites were; we had plenty of choice of pitch and neither was full: In relation to Hurn Lane; other sites in the area were offering free WiFi and 10% discount for booking online - I am not suggesting they are of same standard as CC site but clearly are attracting bookings. The cost of our holidays did seem expensive though we choose CC sites as we know we will get a high standard. Are others choosing alternatives during school holidays?

We spent the Bank holiday weekend at Chester Fairoaks C&MC site and it was very busy.In the 4 days that we were there it seemed that as soon as someone vacated there was someone in the wings ready to fill that pitch.
I must also say that I agree with TW ,all this pulling apart of the club sites ,why be members in the first place .If the club sites are not for you then close membership and move on.

I'm guessing that folk might have been at the beach this past weekend.
the Minehead site was full yet Dunster was, pretty much, deserted, a real rarity.
a couple of points.....if anyone fancies a lovely pub lunch in Dunster, the Luttrel Arms (top of village opposite Yarn Market) has a 'secret' garden and it really is delightful....
secondly, a 'spooky' moment as we arrived back (from the pub) towards our pitch where our van wasn't where I left it.....you know, one of those car park moments where you think.....I'm sure I parked it here....
well, there in front of me was our van, one pitch down from 'our pitch'..
i checked my pocket, the keys were still there, how could this have happened?
'twas only as I walked another ten paces and the optical illusion was revealed.....our neighbour's van, identical to ours, was completely masking our van which slowly 'appeared' from behind it as I walked forward....
a real 'David Copperfield/Diamond Head" moment.....
the evils of drinking at secret beer gardens at lunchtime.....

We have spent the last just over a month on 5 cc sites ,during our stays before the schools half term holiday started there were a choice of pitches midweek but the weekends were very busy,and as soon as the school holiday started two sites at least were turning away "off roaders" as they were full

Easter was busy at Edinburgh even in the second week of the two week holidays, Midweek to midweek at Melrose for BH was busy, just a change of clientele (average age wise) on Friday

Dunster is lovely. We stayed in a thatched cottage one year with Ma and Pa, had a big garden for dogs. After tourists have gone for day, great to stroll around and discover some of the lovely hidden places. Agree about Luttrell Arms, very nice. Our evening stroll was down to Gallox Bridge to watch folks falloff bicycles and stones into river.....happy memories

Great walks also in the 'Estate' forests....head south out of the village and there is a car park on the left....from there you can do different colour circular walks to suit....
last time, they were doing some heavy logging and the signs disappeared halfway round...we were alredy doing the long one....
and things weren't helped by no phone signal...
had to ask one of the loggers the 'way out'.....he said they were sorry all the signs had got removed but they would be back 'shortly'...

Oops! I think we did some short walks with dogs on the Estate, but with Ma and Pa in tow we couldn't go too far. I like Minehead as well, recall a lovely park. Only time we took van to Exmoor, we couldn't get in at both Dulverton sites, big rallies on. Minehead couldn't do all the days either, so we ended up at Burrowhayes, which was lovely. Some time ago now though. Might be down Exmoor later in year, long overdue.

Haven - more expensive than a club site now that summer's here. Well who'd have thought that? (Me, for one actually!
).Still I believe you can probably squeeze an extra 5 adults into your van if necessary which'll obviously make it more economical!

We've stayed on 9 CLs and 2 CC sites on this tour so far and 6 of the CLs have been full the whole time we were on them (about 30 nights) where as the club sites, although non-facility ones similar to a CL, were less than 1/2 full.

....there's also a different hatch on the offside, the upholstery is a different colour, we have 16" wheels not 15", the wheel trims are slightly revised, he has a status aerial as well as the one in the mirror arm, we have a satellite system instead, the drop down bed wasn't selected as an option in their van.....etc, etc
yes, there are a few differences but at the time we came around the corner, our first thought was that 'our van' had moved...which was the point of the comment...
however, it was obviously a silly thought and I should have known better.

well, the point's been made often enough, even by those who use Haven sites....don't go in peak periods as its expensive and crowded....
however, those that do use them tend to do so when it's cheap and deserted, enjoying first class touring areas at rock bottom prices....
there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of any skewed pricing model, is there?
personally, we haven't used Haven for fair while now, other options being taken up, but we may again.....

We spent Whitsun holidays at Seacroft and the site was full the whole week with loads of kids (including mine).The site does have a pool ,bar/.restaurant and nightly entertainment
I have noticed over the years that some sites are not as busy with families during the holiday as they used to be. Maybe down to families tightening the purse strings and also that caravanning is not as cheap as it was made out to be although low compared to staying in hotels or leisure resorts.
