Quiberon
We first visited Quiberon 25 years ago, and then last October on a tour of Normandy and Brittany. We liked the area so much that we’re back here now enjoying some summer sunshine beside the sea. Quiberon is a resort and port at the tip of the Presqu’île de Quiberon. It’s 100% French and 100% Breton!
On one side of the peninsula is the Côte Sauvage,
and on the other the Baie de Quiberon.
We’re at the municipal Camping du Goviro , halfway from the town centre, port and le Grand Plage, to the Pointe du Conguel.
Cycle and coastal footpaths pass the campsite, and there’s a delightful little beach just opposite the site entrance.
If you are able, it’s an ideal spot for walkers and cyclists.
The town centre is by the harbour at the end of a long curving beach and promenade.
Ferries leave the port for Belle-Ile en Mer and Houat.
On Saturday we walked into town for the market. Catherine bought herself yet another colourful 5€ watch to add to her collection.
It’s a holiday weekend in France so the town and its restaurants were busy with everyone in good humour. There was even a bagpiper playing on the harbour wall!
Yesterday, Sunday, we walked over to Port Haliguen where we had lunch of crêpes and cider in the garden of the Vieux Crêperie du Port. Again, we were last there in 1993.
The weather has been very good with temperatures in the low twenties, lots of sunshine, and a little cooling breeze. Although the campsite has been almost full this weekend, it’s been very peaceful – no noise or loud music – just French families enjoying a break. We’re the only Brits on site.

Good to see you have managed to get to France. I bet your site was a bit quieter than Henley Four Oaks

This is a good time to visit Brittany: the campsites are quiet and everything is opening up for the 'saison'. It's warm by day and cool by night, so no late-night partying on site. It means our fridge is working ok, unlike the Cote d'Azur, but the sea is way too cold for swimming! This north-western corner of France is the only region of the country not having a 'yellow' warning for thunderstorms!
